Obituary of Robert Nelson Henry

Mr. Robert Nelson Henry , age 87, late of Foxdale, passed away in the Shellbrook hospital on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Robert was born in the district of Wolverine, near Guernsey on July 31, 1920. His family moved north in 1932, and Robert attended the Wild Rose school. In 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as an airframe mechanic. Following his discharge, he took up farming in the Foxdale district where he settled with his wife, Isabella and children. During this period, he, his brothers, and many of his friends spent several years doing bush work, sawing lumber and working in logging camps in Saskatchewan and Ontario. Robert was a member of the Foxdale Sports Club and played and coached fastball, baseball and hockey for many years. He was also very active in the 4-H system, providing leadership and mentoring for many of the youth in the area for over 14 years. As well as farming, Robert was an accomplished welder, electrician, plumber and carpenter. Not only did he build and renovate many homes, he also built beautiful fine furniture. Robert leaves to mourn: his wife, Isabella (nee: Weber); his daughter Ellen-Jean (Dale) Johnson; his son Barry (Rhonda) Henry and four grandchildren Shawn (Chelsea) Henry, Danielle Henry, Matthew (Chelsey) Henry, Jenna Henry; his great grandchildren Payton, Avery, Kieran, Kara, Mariah; his brothers James (Edith) Henry, Bruce (Evelyn) Henry and their families; his brother, Bill's family. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Minerva; his brother, Bill; a sister-in-law, Olga; a nephew Bryan, an infant brother. It was Robert's wishes that no funeral service would be held. His ashes will be placed in the Veteran's plot in the Shellbrook Cemetery at a later date.
