Obituary of Ben Paulson

It is with deep regret that the family of Ben Paulson announces his sudden passing on March 9, 2008 at the Shellbrook Hospital at the age of 77 years. Ben was born to Annie and Peter Paulson in the Rabbit Lake Hospital on June 24, 1930. He grew up with his brothers Pete, Bill, and Tom, and his sister, Lorna. He attended Tinson School and worked on the family farm in Spiritwood. After his parents retired, he continued farming with Pete and Bill. In later years, his nephew, Chris, bought some of the farm land and they continued farming with him. In the winter of 1997, he purchased a home in Spiritwood with Pete and Bill and started taking life a little easier. Ben's retirement years were actively spent golfing, curling, and bowling and he was often seen within the community socializing with friends. He enjoyed fishing at Larson's Lake and spending time with family, and those who knew Ben also knew how much he liked to joke around and keep others on their toes. Ben will be sadly missed by all who have shared in his life, but he will live on through the memories that each of us hold in our hearts. Ben is lovingly remembered by his brothers William (Bill) Paulson of Spiritwood, SK, Tom (Laurine "Rene") Paulson of Devon, AB; his nephews Christopher (Lola) Lapesky and their children Pamela and Trevor of Spiritwood, SK, Nicholas Lapesky of Spruce Grove, AB, Garry (Claire) Lapesky and their children Ryan and Calvin of Spruce Grove, AB, Bernard Lapesky of Lloydminster, AB, Monte (Kim) Paulson and their children Caleb, Kaylee and Ashley-Kate of Devon, AB, his niece Tammy (Dallas) Klapstein of Calmar, AB and her son Carson as well as numerous cousins, aunts and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents Annie and Peter Paulson, his brother Peter G. Paulson, his sister Lorna (Andrew) Lapesky and his niece Anne Lapesky. The funeral service was held on Friday, March 14th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Christ Church Anglican Church in Spiritwood with Rev. Peter Boote as the officiant. The music director was Bill Martodam who sang the hymns Mansion Over the Hilltop, Nearer My God To Thee and Just A Closer Walk With Me. Barb Szasz performed a solo, Precious Lord Take My Hand. The eulogy was read by Tammy Klapstein and Pamela Lapesky. Honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Ben's life and the active pall bearers were Monte Paulson, Dallas Klapstein, Chris Lapesky, Trevor Lapesky, Garry Lapesky and Bernie Lapesky. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Ben was laid to rest in the Spiritwood Cemetery.
