Obituary of LEO COMTOIS
COMTOIS- Leodore "Leo" Joseph Comtois, late of Canwood, SK. passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008 in Shellbrook Union Hospital at the age of 80 years. Leo was born on May 3, 1927 to Elphege and Clairina Comtois. He was raised on the family farm, three miles east of Debden and went to school in the district. He married Marie Bayda and they had three children, Angie, Ann and Bob. His occupations were farming, logging and truck driving. Leo mainly dedicated his life to trucking which took him to many places all over Canada and the U.S.., He claimed that traveling in the mountains was his favorite because of the beautiful scenery. Leo's family made their home in Calgary. In his later years, Leo returned to live in the Debden area, and was near his aging parents. He was able to do seasonal work in the area by driving trucks for local farmers. In his last years he lived in the Senior Housing in Canwood. Leo's great interest in trucking continued throughout his life and he spent many hours sitting in his van, along the highway by the elevators, watching the semi-trucks go past. The Whispering Pine Place Nursing Home in Canwood was where Leo chose to call home when his health failed. Leo is survived by; the mother of his children, Marie Comtois of Calgary, AB, his daughter, Mrs. Angie (Roger) Frei of Calgary, AB., his son, Bob (Brenda) Comtois of Calgary, AB., his daughter, Mrs. Ann (Victor) Camponi of Qualicum Beach, BC. Grandchildren, Chad Camponi, Shane (Wendy) Comtois, Carrie (Blair) Foster and three great grandchildren; Carter and Kaitlyn Comtois and Sophie Foster, a sister, Flore Cyr of Port Alberni, BC., a special cousin, Marcel Comtois, nieces and nephews; Claire Cyr (Ron Alger), Alice (Keith) Bennett, Lina (Daniel) Bowen, Monique (Gerald) Prouten, Leon (Dawn) Cyr, Suzanne (John) Jones, Diane (Mike) Holleman, Paul (Connie Wenthall) Cyr, Henri Cyr, Suzanne Comtois, Michelle Comtois and numerous other relatives. Leo was predeceased by; his parents, Elphege and Clairina Comtois, a sister, Angeline, brothers; Paul, Joseph and Ovila, a brother-in-law, Gerald Cyr. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, April 24, 2008 in St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Debden, SK. at 7:30 p.m. with Father Paul DeGuzman as celebrant. The Crossbearer was George Dore. The Active Pallbearers were Marcel Comtois, Marcel Dore, Euclid Dore, Arthur Larrivee, Paul Lafond, Leo Lafond. Memorial donations may be made to the Debden Personal Care Home Fund or the choice of the donor. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date.
