Obituary of Betty Smith
Betty Smith, late of Prince Albert and formerly of MacDowall, passed away on October 24, 2018 at the age of 85 years.
Betty was born in Saskatoon and was adopted by a loving family from Dundurn. She resided there until the early 50’s when she moved, with her parents, to the MacDowall/Lindsay district. Here she met her husband and, on the family farm, raised three daughters. Betty enjoyed puttering in her yard, tending her garden and flower beds. She fed the flocks of birds arriving during the winter and the hummingbirds in summer and waged an ongoing battle with the squirrels pilfering from the feeders. She lovingly cared for the many cats and dogs that called the farm their home. After her daughters left home, Betty obtained her drivers license and commenced employment at the Coronet Hotel, firstly as a short order cook in the restaurant and then as Banquet Supervisor. She worked there from 1983 until her retirement in August 2009 at the age of 75 years. During this time, she also made many memorable trips to sunny beach locales in Hawaii and Mexico. Following her spouse’s death in 2009, she remained on the farm until its sale in 2012. Betty moved into Prince Albert and ultimately to Herb Bassett Home eight months prior to her death.
Betty was predeceased by her husband of 57 years: Elmer. Left to grieve her passing are her daughters: Glenda, Janet and Geraldine; two grandsons: Kelly and Todd; her niece: Cheryl Kasper; and her Eastern nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff at Kopera Care Home and at Herb Bassett Home, for their care over the past 3 and a half years. We would also like to acknowledge the care and support offered by Dr. Michelle James.
A Private Family Service took place on October 31, 2018 and Betty was laid to rest at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
