Obituary of Doris Nettie Major

Mrs. Doris Major, late of Rural Prince Albert, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018. With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a dear step-mom, granny, sister, aunt and friend, Doris (nee Loewen) Major. Doris was born, July 28, 1937, at home on the farm in Waldheim, to Peter I. Loewen and Helena (Unruh). Doris went to school there, and in 1955 moved to Prince Albert and start working at the Victoria Hospital in the kitchen. In about 1957 she met, my dad, Harry Major, thorough a friend. In 1969, I moved into town with dad and that September they got married. In the early years of their dating, Doris would sew me dresses and matching head bands, she could sew anything, perfectly, she sewed my wedding dress, I still have it and hope one of grand daughters may wear it. Doris was an exceptional cook as well, enjoyed trying all types of dishes and goodies, Christmas Eve especially. In the mid 70’s they entered their names for a draw to lease a lot at Weyakwin Lake, Ramsey Bay. Doris’s name was drawn. So on weekends and their holidays they built a small 2 bedroom “Shack”, as dad called it. As the grandchildren came they had to add on. In 1985 both retired, and enjoyed their time at the lake. Dad & Doris were never apart, working side by side in everything they did; gardening, wood cutting, berry picking and fishing. Especially fishing, she had to be there to take the fish off the hook, Dad didn’t like to touch the fish. They made many wonderful friends at the lake, and some still gave her a call. Dad passed away in 2008, she stayed that year in PA, but didn’t like being in town, so she sold the house and bought a modular home and moved out to our farm. She loved it out here. The peace and quiet, the wild animals and of course Gary’s cows, which she was more then happy to go and help him with anything. Doris leaves to mourn her daughter Beverley & Gary Semchuk, grandchildren Lori & Richard Dyok, their children Brianna, Ashlyn; Lindsey Semchuk, her children Julianne, Lauryn & Andrew Hermann; Brendan & Jessica (Wheler), their son, Keegan Wolfe. Two sisters Irma Love and Judy & Dennis Ebel, two brothers Archie & Carolyn Loewen and Tom Loewen, one sister in law, Shirley Major, numerous nieces and nephews and her lake friends, Bernice Thompson and Rita Logodin, as well as her loving dog, Alfie. Doris was predeceased by husband Harry Major, her parents Peter & Helena Loewen, 2 sisters Rita Ann Loewen and Marjorie Rempel and brother Eugene Loewen and his wife Mary, as well as her walking and gardening companions, KC and Duchess. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30pm on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens with Pastor Íris Kristjánsdóttir officiating.
