We would like to extend our condolences to the family of Frank Zawada. Frank was a teacher/principal at the Shell Lake school throughout my 12 years of attending school there and thinking of him brings back pleasant memories of his ways of teaching and mentoring students/teachers at the school. There are so many things that come to mind when I think of Mr. Zawada, but the one that stands out the most was his genuine interest in how us students were able to go on from school and make our own mark in life. In particular I still remember a lot of the math related short cuts he used to teach us and I've used those same methods throughout my professional career. Myself and all of my siblings and parents have been life long friends with the Zawada family and it is sad to see a man with so many life accomplishments and talents leave us. The world has definitely been a better place to live because of him.

I would like to pass on my sincere sympathy to the family for the loss of this fine man. As a former student under the leadership of Mr. Zawada at the Shell Lake school I am likely one of many that passed through those doors and never recognized until years later the significant effort that Frank made in making that school a better place. Having my own children attend various levels of education at what would be considered more significant schools, they never experienced a teacher or a principal that would on their own time make special efforts like establish & groom the cross country running trails, build an awards podium, put together a sound system providing for mobile play-by-play and announcements during outdoor sporting events or attend sporting events during off hours the way that Frank did. Even with those types of special efforts related to the school and with his contributions to the community he was able to perform his primary function of maintaining a team of educators that allowed students like me to take on certain qualities that somehow stood out while obtaining my post-secondary education and throughout my career. Overall, I do realize that having the fortune to graduate from the Shell Lake school led by Frank Zawada and being raised in a community with great leaders like him had provided me with the tools to have success and have a positive impact on society in my own way.
The contributions that Frank made to the community at a professional and personal level will always be very much appreciated!

Our heartfelt sympathy to your family for your loss. Frank was a respected and committed teacher who impacted the students he taught. He was also
committed to and made significant contributions to improving the community of Shell Lake. I remember Frank’s sense of humour and laugh, and his ongoing interest in me when we met on my visits to Shell Lake. Our prayers are with your family as you gather to celebrate a life well lived.

So sorry for you loss. I remember many many times, he would find me in the halls of the old school hiding behind doors, to avoid the stare of the principal because I had been bad and was in detention. Some how he always found me and I got the talk. He was a man bigger than life always roaming the halls of the school mingling with teachers and anyone who came into our school. He was a mentor to many and a friend to us all. He will be missed.
