Obituary of Mary Bruce
Mary Ellen Bruce (nee Ernst)
Mary Bruce, late of Prince Albert, passed away on January 3, 2019 at the age of 86 years. Mary was born on January 16, 1932 to Paul and Gertrude Ernst of Sturgeon Valley where she grew up with her 5 brothers. She was a member of 4-H in her youth where she learned the value of hard work, she carried this with her well into her 70s. Mom would tell us of the hardships of growing up as a young woman back then, but always included the good times and fun she had growing up on the farm. On June 16, 1950, she married Milton Bruce and they lived on the farm in Deer Ridge while raising their 8 children. Our Mom spent most of her time in those years planting huge gardens, sewing, tending to the raspberries and chickens and making sure that we were all fed. She loved to cook and was famous for her buns. Mom worked at the Provincial Forestry Farm in Spruce Home and this was a joy to her as she worked with plants, met new friends and enjoyed lots of laughs with the crew. In later years, Mom lived in seniors homes in Prince Albert, Weldon and Kinistino. As dementia took control of her life she began residing at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert. The family feels truly blessed that Mom was able to spend the last two years there and wish to sincerely thank the Staff for their above and beyond love, compassion and care she received at Mont St. Joseph Home. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children: Richard (Elaine), Dale (Eileen), Jim (Edna), Don (Charlotte), Leroy, Wanda Robillard and Candace (Calvin) Johnson; her 24 grandchildren; her 51 great-grandchildren; her 2 great-great grandchildren; her brothers: Lewis (Mamie), Ervin (Donna) and Jack (Dorothy); her sister-in-law: Bertha; her son-in-law: Lyle Vaughan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by: her husband: Milton; her daughter: Bonnie Vaughan; her grandson: Dennis Vaughan; her son-in-law: Vince Robillard; her parents: Paul and Gertrude Ernst; her in-laws: Rupert and Mary Bruce; her brothers: Howard and Ralph and her sister-in-law: Sophie. Visitation will take place at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Beau “Lac” Funeral Home, 300B-300 Marquis Road, Prince Albert.
