Obituary of Angele Soucy

It is with great sadness that the family of Angele Soucy announces her sudden passing on May 28, 2008 in Leoville, SK at the age of 93 years. Marie Angele Beatrice Fontaine was born at Prud'Homme, Saskatchewan on December 4, 1914. In 1927, her father filed for a homestead in the Leoville area and moved his family here the following year. In 1934, at the age of 19, she met Noel Soucy and was married after Christmas Eve Mass that same year. A member of the Leoville community for 80 years, Angele Soucy was a true pioneer. She raised a family of five children while feeding thrashing crews of seventeen men, milking cows, feeding pigs and chickens, and running the household. Hard work and family were Angele's life - but Sundays were filled with Church and time with family and friends. Even in the toughest times, hospitality to neighbours was very important to Angele. Everyone was welcomed at her house and no one ever left without their stomach full of good food. When you think of qualities that defined Angele Soucy - words like resourceful, strong, and determined come easily. While she was all of these things, she was also good-natured and very sociable. She cared about how you were doing and was quick to pull up a chair and invite you to stay for a visit. She was always willing to give a helping hand and always thought of others before herself. Even in her retirement years, Angele continued to live her life with energy and hard work. Her independence was very important to her. She stayed in her own home until she was 90 years old and lived on her own until her passing at age 93. She credited her physical activity, whether it was gardening, clearing snow, or walking to get the mail or to church, for her health and mental alertness. Angele was a good woman who lived a long, full life. Her spirit and values will continue to live in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. May we remember her well. Angele is lovingly remembered by her children Roland (Marlene) Soucy of Leoville, SK, Leo (Elisa) Soucy of Leoville, SK, Isabelle (Joe) Horn of Spiritwood, SK, Albert (Betty Ann) Soucy of Leoville, SK and Muriel (Howard) Dickey of Gibsons, BC; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; her sister Lillian Hogan of Montreal, PQ as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Noel Soucy, her parents Euclyde and Jeanne Fontaine, her brothers and sisters Edgard (Marie Claire) Fontaine, Isabelle (Adelard) Couture and Jean (Paul) Manegre and Laurette (Oscar) Bourdonnais. The prayer service was held on Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 at 1 p.m. both from St. Therese R. C. Church in Leoville. The celebrant was Rev. Fr. Paul De Guzman and the cross bearer was Dale Horn. The organist was Doris Daniels and the choir was directed by Ed Samson. The eulogy was read by Jilaire Soucy Wagner & Kurt Soucy. The honorary pall bearers were the Parkland Home Care Staff as well as all relatives and friends who shared in Angele's life. The active pall bearers were Dale Horn, Dean Horn, Kelly Soucy, Kole Soucy, Kurt Soucy, Murray Soucy, Joel Soucy and Byron Soucy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leoville Cemetery. Angele was laid to rest in the Leoville Cemetery.
