Obituary of Yvonne Lehman

LEHMAN- Marie Yvonne Lehman passed away on July 5, 2008 in Whispering Pine Place Nursing Home in Canwood, SK. at the age of 88 years. Yvonne was born on October 3, 1919 in Duck Lake, SK. to Albert and Mary Jane Fisher. She took her schooling there and was employed before her marriage by Mrs. Longley as a postal worker and telephone exchange operator. She met and married Herbert W. Lehman in 1940. They were married for 52 years. Their first home was in Rosthern. During the war they moved to Ontario where Herb was stationed at Camp Borden and mom lived near by. At the end of the war, they again lived at Rosthern, and they moved to the Debden area. Together they farmed there for nearly 50 years. She grew a large garden out of necessity as well as for pleasure, and was very active in all aspects of the farm. Until the very last years of her life she walked everyday around the farm or up and down the country roads enjoying the fresh air and scenery for her own enjoyment as well as for exercise. She loved table games, and was a worthy opponent at scrabble. She lovingly made many wool quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Yvonne was an active member of the Shellbrook Seventh Day Adventist church. She served as a deaconess, Sabbath school superintendent and taught tirelessly in the children's divisions. She was a member of the Canwood Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Yvonne especially liked to bowl with the seniors at the Debden Golden Age Center. Yvonne did a little traveling in her senior years to California, Yellowstone Park and British Columbia. The high light of these trips was a three week trip in 1996 to the Holy Land. When Yvonne chose not to drive anymore she made her home with her daughter Judy at Parkside and them finally at Whispering Pine Place in Canwood.
