Obituary of Albert Gordon Starblanket

Albert Gordon Starblanket 1932 - 2019 Albert "Boss" Gordon Starblanket passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the age of 86 in Spiritwood, SK with his family by his side. Albert was the last surviving war veteran living on Ahtahkakoop First Nation, having fought in the Korean War. Albert will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Dean (Susan) Starblanket of Prince Albert, SK and Gary (Shiela) Joseph of Nova Scotia; daughters, Christine (Allan) Masuskapoe of Sandy Lake, SK, Verna Sasakamoose of Sandy Lake, SK, Celina (Matthew) Jones Hays of Montana, USA, and Lynn Duquette; his sister, Shirley Starblanket of James Smith, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Matilda Starblanket; his daughters, Dorothy Kemp and Beatrice Sand; his parents, George and Emily Starblanket; his brothers; David Starblanket, John George Starblanket, Adam Starblanket, and Archie Starblanket; and sister, Edith Ahenakew. Wake service commenced on Monday, June 24, 2019, at 4:00 pm. The funeral Service was held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. Both services were held at the Ahtahkakoop First Nation Band Hall with Bishop Adam Halkett officiating. The FSIN Veterans and active military personnel took part in the service. All veterans and legion members were welcome to take part. Interment followed in the St. Marks Anglican Cemetery with the veterans giving Albert a final farewell and a 21 gun salute.
