Obituary of Kama Soles

Kama Rae Soles With deep sadness and broken hearts our beautiful daughter, sister and auntie, Kama, passed away in the early morning of August 9, 2019 at her home of 10 months at Mont St. Joseph Home. Kama Rae Soles was born in Prince Albert on May 30th, 1977. She grew up on the family farm south of Prince Albert and attended Osborne School, Wesmor Junior High School and Carlton High School where she graduated in 1995 with Honors and a handful of scholarships. Growing up Kama was active playing sports such as softball, skiing, skating, bowling and loved to ride around the farm with her sister on their minibike, At the age of 10, Kama was diagnosed with extremely rare recessive genetic disorder, Friedreich’s Ataxia (F.A.). F.A. robbed her of many physical abilities however it didn’t take her intelligence, her spirit, her thirst for learning, her determination, her perseverance and her love for life. In 1996, she moved to Saskatoon to attend the U of S., completing her first degree, B.A. Honours in Psychology. Kama then entered the work force as a Community Housing Coordinator at the North Sask Independent Living Centre. She volunteered and advocated with various organizations involved with empowering women with disabilities, she was passionate about raising awareness and money to support research and a cure for F.A. She was the Saskatchewan Representative for C.A.F.A., organized 3 Walk and Roll fundraising events and created an on-line support group for others with F.A. Her thirst for learning was not quenched, she continued with her education and received her Master of Arts, Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies in 2010. Kama lived in Saskatoon for 22 years and as her physical health declined, she progressed from living on her own to assisted living and finally to long term care. In October of 2018, due to even further decline in her health, she longed to be near her family and moved back to P.A. It was at her new home; Mont St. Joseph Kama truly found the loving care she so deserved. Kama had many loves in her life, her family, her friends, opera, art, travel and Pepsi Slurpee’s!! Kama believed life is abundant and plentiful, she enjoyed stimulating conversation, interesting people and loved the spotlight. She lived her life without fear or regret and tried to make an unmistakable impact on those around her…….. and that she did!!
