Obituary of LENA GERARD

GERARD- Lena Marie Gerard passed into the presence of God on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Herb Bassett Care Home in Prince Albert, SK. at the age of 87 years. Lena was born on October 7, 1920 in St. Laurent, SK. to Jean and Virginia Gervais. Lena married Celestine "Gerry" Gerard on May 1, 1943 and they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary prior to his passing on July 13, 1999. Coming from a working farm background, she cut cord wood for a number of years in Northern Saskatchewan. She eventually went into the service industry and worked in various highway camps cooking. This experience led her interests to become a restaurant entrepreneur in Whitefox, SK. As a homemaker, she enjoyed her free time as a baker, knitter, and dancer to the Red River Jig. She was an avid family supporter and assisted immediate and extended family members in any way she could. In addition, she enjoyed playing games and telling stories of her adventures in life. Lena resided prior to her passing at the Herb Bassett Home for approximately eight years. She was very happy there and the staff and residents all loved her and the staff took excellent care of her. She will be sadly missed by her family and all the hearts she touched. Lena leaves to mourn her passing; Her children, Annette (Jim) Szell of Whitecourt, AB., Rosanna (Norman) Durocher of Regina, SK., Frances Ricalton of Shellbrook, SK., Tom (Ida) Gerard of Saskatoon, SK., Joseph (Sally) Gerard of Tisdale, SK., Marcel (Shirley) Gerard of Muskaday, SK., Andrew Gerard of Langley, BC., Victoria Closter of Kinistino, SK., Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, Two sisters; Elmire Royer of St. Louis, SK. and Lorna Dubray of Meadow Lake and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Lena was predeceased by; Her husband, Celestine Gerard, Her parents, Jean and Virginia Gervais, Six brothers, Jean, Fred, Maxime, George, Johnny and Joseph, A sister, Florence, a son, Abraham Gerard. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m in the Shellbrook Senior's Hall with Delores Beaulac as officiant. The Honorary Pallbearers were "All of Lena's family and friends who knew and loved her." The Active Pallbearers were Randy Ricalton, Peter Durocher, Dean Gerard, Wayne Gerard, Lloyd Gerard, Cory Kisser. The Eulogists were Edna Regan and Peter Durocher. The Music was done by Tom & Ida Gerard. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or choice of the donor. The Interment was in Memorial Gardens in Prince Albert, SK.
