Obituary of Melvin "Mel" Smith

Melvin “Mel” Smith January 5 1958 - November 30, 2019 Born in Prince Albert to Joe and Mae Smith, Melvin was the eldest of seven children. He enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, camping, singing, playing his guitar and never missed a good party in his younger years. He married his high school sweetheart Debbie, in 1978 and they had one child, Warren. He worked many years in construction, he took great pride in his work and a job well done. He also took great pride in making sure that the family was looked after. Whether you liked what he said or not, it was honest, and usually just what you needed to hear. Family was first to him and he led by example in that regard. He leaves to mourn, his wife of 41 years, Debbie (Linger) Smith; his son, Warren (Cheryl) Smith; and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Sidney; his mother: Mae Smith; his brothers: Kelly (Chris) Smith and Don Smith; his sisters: Wendy Smith, Wanda (Ron) Anderson, and Sandy (Mattie Ballantyne) Smith; his brother and sisters-in-law: George and Susettte Linger and Helen and Ray Jutras; his Uncle Floyd and Pearl, Auntie Jeanette and Auntie Yvette; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Melvin was predeceased by his grandson, Wyatt Smith; his father, Joseph Smith; sister, Laurie Smith; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Joe Linger and his grandparents, Max and Celia Lucier and Leon and Margurite Smith. The family would like to offer their thanks to the staff at the Herb Bassett Home, and the Victoria Hospital staff and doctors Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at St. Michael Parish, 1505 13th St. W, Prince Albert, SK, with Father DJ Vu officiating.
