Obituary of Marcus "Mark" Tienkamp
It is with heavy hearts the family of Mark Tienkamp announce his passing on February 1, 2020 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 82.
Mark was born on June 5, 1937 in Birch Hills, SK to Marcus and Gerrigje Tienkamp. Mark being the 3rd youngest of seven children. The family moved to Henribourg, where Mark’s eldest sister Alice Cheal still resides. When Mark was in 9th grade, he decided to forgo his education to begin working, picking roots for 50 cents a day. He eventually moved onto working at Burns Meat Packing Plant from 1955 to 1976, until the plant closed. Mark then decided to continue his education and received his Grade 12 Equivalency Diploma October 22, 1976. A few months later on June 30, 1977 Mark graduated from Kelsey Institute Retail Meat Cutting program and was hired by Safeway even before his graduation date and worked there until his retirement in 2002.
Mark was the proud father of Kevin when he met Sylvia Paulson in October 1962, whom he married on January 12, 1963. Mark’s family grew bigger from 1963 to 1970 with the addition of Bonnie, Jeff and Gerri. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family camping, fishing, hunting and attending sporting events of not only his children but also his grandchildren. Mark loved to dance; he was always on the dance floor at every occasion. He was also well known for his sense of humour, his joke telling and his practical jokes.
Mark is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his children: Kevin (Gail) Tienkamp, Bonnie (Allen) Furi, Jeff Tienkamp and Gerri (Glen) Pickard; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Rubin (Nadine Tilden-Dagenais) White, Harmoney and Abel, Cora-Lee White-Furi, Cody (Amanda) Tienkamp and Nickolas, Michael (Sara) Tienkamp, Peyton, Ava and Haydn, Carson (Carly McKay) Tienkamp, Aurora and Hayden, Kyla (Jesse Stasiuk) Tienkamp, Megan (Mike Remy) Pickard and Keltie, Matthew (Kayla Rowe) Pickard and Connor, Marcus (Siobhan O’Shaughnessy) Pickard, Shaun (Ieva) Crowe-Swords, Beckett and Bennett, Dainya (Rory) Sapergia, Savanna and Sierra; his sister, Alice Cheal; brother, Garry Tienkamp; sisters-in-law, Elaine Wilkinson, Joanne Johnston and Jeanette Tienkamp; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Marcus and Gerrigje Tienkamp; his parents-in-law, Rubin and Carol Paulson; his siblings, Janna and Marvin Biggar, Margaret and Edwin Thall, Lenard Tienkamp, Ken Tienkamp; and his brother-in-law, Wayne Paulson.
Donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Prince Albert Raiders Education Fund, The Heart and Stroke Foundation - 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon SK, S7K 1V9, or the Honeywood Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at East End Hall, 2nd Street and 10th Ave East, Prince Albert, SK.
