Laurent was predeceased by his parents, Willie and Amanda Duret; his brothers, Andre, Guy and Roger; Diane's parents, Alexis and Simone Lagimodiere; his brothers and sister in law, Leo Prefontaine, Annette Duret and Denis Lagimodiere; his niece Therese Duret; and his granddaughter, Naomi Fast. Laurent was born on June 5, 1940 on the family farm near Victoire SK to Willie and Amanda Duret. He grew up with a deep appreciation of rural life and had a strong connection with the land that he lived and worked on. He married Diane Lagimodiere in 1964 and they farmed near the original Duret homestead until relocating to Saskatoon in 1981. Laurent held a variety of jobs there until his retirement in December 2002. He built their retirement home in Morin Lake, very near their original farm, and he and Diane were very happy to return to the area in August 2003. Laurent's heart was always in northern Saskatchewan and he and Diane enjoyed their retired lives. He was often found in his garage, tinkling with tools, fixing , building, carving or outside working in the yard. Inside the house, he loved playing cards, collecting coins, reading and working on any kind of puzzle. But the most important thing to Laurent was his family and his close friends. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with the people he loved the most. The family would like to thank all those who supported them during Laurent's illness with their kind messages, food, flowers, prayers, phone calls and visits. This outpouring of love is a testament to the kind of life that he lived. A special thank you is extended to Mary Anne Kuin and the Palliative Home Care team. They made his last few months as comfortable as possible, supporting and assisting his decision to remain home as he neared the end of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society. Prayer s Will be held on Monday November 17th at 7:30 pm, followed by the funeral on Tuesday November 18th at 2:00 pm at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Debden Saskatchewan.
