Obituary of Ivan Campbell Rogers

It is with sadness in their hearts that the family of Ivan Rogers announces Ivan's passing on November 16, 2008. After a long and courageous battle, he died peacefully at home in the loving arms of his wife and daughter. Ivan will be fondly remembered by all those who knew him for his kind and caring nature. There was never a job too big or too small. He was a jack of all trades and was always willing to lend a hand. Ivan worked many jobs in his life including a power line man, an elevator agent, a farmer, a heavy duty mechanic and commissionaire. Many of Ivan's years were spent in B.C. but in 1998 he retired and Ivan and Lena moved back to Saskatchewan. His many hobbies and interests included curling, gardening, playing ball, bowling, camping, playing cards (especially ramolie and crib) and fixing and building things. He loved his family and loved to be amongst his relatives and friends. As he said "More people, more fun." Ivan leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 45 years, Lena Rogers of Spiritwood, SK; his only daughter Lucille of Kamloops, BC; his grandchildren Kyle and Brittany of Kamloops, BC; his brothers and sisters Ernie (Beryl) Rogers of Melfort, SK, David (Linda) Rogers of Cutknife, SK, Herb (Eletha) Rogers of Leduc, AB, Clinton (Bonnie) Rogers of Melfort, SK, Hector Rogers of Edmonton, AB, Marilyn Nelson of St. Albert, AB and Evelyn (Randy) Anderson of Beatty, SK; his brothers in-law Raymond (Helen) Lavoie of Valleyview, AB and Andy Lavoie of Spiritwood, SK; his other family Beryl Toews of Lethbridge, AB, Judy Kristensen of Prince Albert, SK and Phyllis Treit of Edmonton, AB as well as aunts, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and countless friends. Ivan was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Ida Rogers, his father and mother in-law Arthur and Clemence Lavoie, his sisters Miriam and Ellen, his brothers Thomas and Earl, his sister's in-law Maryann Lavoie, Breta and Mary Rogers, and his brothers in-law Neil Nelson and Henri Lavoie. A Celebration of Ivan's Life was held on Friday, November 21st, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Spiritwood Civic Centre with Rev. Leigh Sinclair officiating. The soloist was Bill Martodam and the eulogy was read by Marilyn Nelson. Honorary pall bearers were Ivan's two grandchildren and all relatives and friends who shared in Ivan's life. The urn bearer was Kyle Kapsha and members of the Spiritwood RCMP Detachment formed an honor guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or the Spiritwood Curling & Bowling Association Box 461, Spiritwood, SK S0J 2M0. Ivan will be laid to rest at the Laventure Cemetery at a later date. The family of Ivan Rogers wish to thank all the friends and relatives for the food, flowers, kindness and support given at our time of need. A special note of thanks to Dr. Thomas and staff and the wonderful care and support from Home Care. To Charmaine Legrand of Beau "Lac" Funeral Home, Pastor Leigh Sinclair, Spiritwood RCMP, Bill Martodam and to the ladies who organized, prepared and served the luncheon-we are forever grateful.
