Donna Marie Hedley
June 19, 1932 – March 17, 2020
Donna Marie Hedley was born on June 19, 1932 in Tompkins, SK, to Edward “Ed” and Jessie Haley. Donna was the fourth of six children to grow up on a small farm near Tompkins, SK. After leaving high school she went on to begin nurses training in Swift Current, SK. Her nursing career started in Gull Lake, SK. and continued in Suffield, AB. She later went on to pursue a career as a school teacher. After finishing teachers college, she began as a grade 5 school teacher in Riverhurst, SK. and continued teaching in Saskatoon while she started her BEd, at the U of S and then on to completion in Prince Albert. She continued teaching in Prince Albert where she retired after 30 plus years devoting herself to her student’s education. While teaching school in Riverhurst she met and married the Principal of the school, Owen William Hedley on October 4, 1958.
She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband Owen and a loving and caring mother to her children; Marcel Hedley, Evelyn Hustad (nee Hedley), and Bradley Hedley. She adored and loved her grandchildren: Shanna Carlson (nee Hedley), Rianne Stanway (nee Hedley), Jared Hedley, Lauren Jenkins (nee Hedley), Dylan Hedley, and Kaitlyn Hustad, as well as nieces and nephews.
Donna loved gardening, as all those familiar with her passion, could observe a yard filled with beautiful flowers, shrubs, hedges as well as a lush vegetable garden. Her flower gardens always attracted attention and were occasionally mentioned in the Resort Village of Candle Lake publication. Owen and Donna enjoyed their lake front cottage at Candle Lake which eventually became their retirement home.
Donna was predeceased by: her husband Owen William Hedley, her father and mother: Ed & Jessie Haley, her father and mother-in-law, William “Bill” & Evelyn Hedley, her brothers: Charlie Haley and wife Maude Haley, Don Haley, Ronnie Haley and wife Ellen Haley, her sister Elizabeth MacAuley and husband Doug MacCauley, her brother-in-law Clyde Heffley, her sister-in-law Marge Haley, and nephew Donnie Haley.
Donna is survived by her sister Evelyn Heffley and her brother Cliff Haley, and Debbie. her children; Marcel & Patti Hedley (nee Wall), Keith & Evelyn Hustad (nee Hedley) and Bradley Hedley & Rita McCallum; her grandchildren: Shanna & Caleb Carlson, Rianne & Mikal Stanway, Jared & Samantha Hedley & great-grandson Haven Hedley; Lauren & Travis Jenkins, Dylan Hedley and Kaitlyn Hustad; brother & sister-in-law, Fen & Rosemary Hedley, and Barbara Scratch (nee Hedley).
Donna will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of coming to know her as a very warm, kind and loving soul. Even though you are gone and resting in peace you will always be in our hearts and minds. Until we see you again your love lives on in us.
