Obituary of Delphine Bertha Storey

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Delphine Bertha Storey ( nee:Lueken) on February 3, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Delphine was born February 3, 1921 in Carmel, Sk. Her childhood was filled with fun as she grew up with two sisters and five brothers. In 1945 Delphine married the love of her life, Arnold Storey and they started their life in Big River. Later they moved to a farm in the Canwood district, soon after the big day came when they were blessed with their son Terrance. With an addition to the family, the house soon felt too small and the next year they built a new comfortable home. Delphine loved the farm; she in particular cared about the animals as long as they did not get into her big garden. Delphine's garden was always a prized possession, not one weed if she could help it. She took prizes with her vegetables and flowers, both when she was on the farm and in town. Anyone who knew Delphine knew that she loved her two granddaughters, Shannon and Charlene. When ever she showed their pictures, pride shone in her eyes. She loved making desserts and baking fruit cake for them. Delphine always had lots of fun when her granddaughter's came to help pick strawberries and raspberries, that's after they ate their fill with not too much in the pail. She taught the girls to do beautiful embroidery, knitting and crocheting. Delphine was always busy, she was mailman to many residents in the senior homes, she also took time to deliver groceries. She played cards with her neighbors and with the seniors when she joined Canwood Senior Club, Delphine even gave bowling a try. Another passion of Delphine's was to travel, making many trips to B.C to visit family, also to big River to see her sister. Whether she was playing Bingo or cards, the residents of Whispering Pine Place always looked forward to her volunteer visits. This type of giving of her time and energy was Delphine, she did not look for a similar gift in return, there were no strings attached, the giving came from her heart. Delphine has been part of Canwood's history; she has been a friend to many and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Delphine is survived by her son Terrance Storey of Canwood, Sk, her granddaughters Charlene and Shannon Storey of Saskatoon, Sk, her sister Nora Darbyshire of Big River, Sk, her sister in-law Jenny Lueken of Big River, Sk, and Thereas Lueken of P.A, Sk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass was held in the Canwood Elk's Hall on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, Rev.Fr. Bernabe Millan Sajonas was the celebrant. Eulogy was done by Doris Wideen-Bazley, organist was Monica Svendsen, the soloist was Connie Schock, reader was Anna Darbyshire, and cross bearers were Charlene and Shannon Storey. Internment was in the Canwood North Cemetery, memorial donations may be made to the Whispering Pine Place, Canwood, Sk.
