Through my brother Gerry and my own involvement in hockey, I came to know Jim quite well, and over many decades. I never referred to him as Chief. Jim was always humble despite his stature are en elite athlete. He was happy, friendly and fun-very liked and respected. I vividly recall an exhibition game in Saskatoon when nutbar Howie Young (who I played with and observed his propensity to hurt other players) for noe reason injured 2 Ranger teammates, one being Dick Duff. Jim, on a rush with the puck, skated right at Young,shot the puck at his head, dropped his gloves and laid a beating on this bully. Great teammate, out of character, and entirely appropriate.
