Obituary of Willard "Bill" Canaday

Mr. Willard 'Bill' Canaday, age 83, late of Shellbrook, passed away in Parkland Terrace Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Bill was born on April 13, 1925 in Yankee Valley, along with two brothers and three sisters. He enlisted during WW II, and served in the Blackwatch Regiment. Bill was wounded in action three times. Bill returned from the war, and married Hazel Vincent in July, 1950. They have three children, Janet, Lois and Boyd. Bill worked with the telephone company for a short time, then began farming. He was a Legion member, and was also an Elk's member, working with the July 1st horse races. He enjoyed music, liked to sing and play instruments, and go to dances. Bill was a golfer, and curled in the winter. He had a superb sense of humour, and was always there to help when he was needed. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Bill leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 58 years, Hazel (nee: Vincent) of Shellbrook; his daughters, Janet (Phil) Mackie of Prince Albert and their children, Erin (Joe) Zatalny, Travis (Erin) Sattee, Lois (Ken) Grendahl of Edmonton and their children, Leam, Brynna; his son Boyd (Shari) Canaday of Shellbrook and their children, Brendon, Dorin; his great grandchildren, Shai Settee, Kaylan Mackie, Mya Zatalny; a sister, Louise Loth of Shellbrook; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by, his parents, Marcella and Joseph Canaday; his brothers, Dick, Vergil Canaday ; his sisters, Julia Aug, Lois Webb; his mother-and father-in-law, Ruby and Wilfred Vincent. The Memorial Service was held at Beau'Lac' Funeral Home on Monday, March 16 with Rev. Roland Legge as officiant. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, 301-2550 12th Ave, Regina, S4P 3X1. Interment will be at a later date.
