Obituary of Janetta "Nettie" Horricks

HORRICKS - Mrs. Janetta "Nettie". On April 27 we said goodbye to our beloved mother and grandmother. She passed away peacefully at the Shellbrook Union Hospital at the age of 83, after a 9 month battle with cancer. She was born in Shellbrook November 11, 1925 to Thomas and Mary Low. She was predeceased by her loving husband Stanley Horricks, parents Mary and Thomas Low; brothers Bill and Tom Low. Mom and Grandma is lovingly remembered by her children Marie Trueman of Shellbrook; Norma (Arthur) Gampe of Shellbrook; Gordon (Lana) Horricks of Shellbrook; and Heather (Troy) Anderson of Saskatoon. Her sisters-in-law Marie Low of Saskatoon, Lillian Low of Langley, B.C. and Gertrude Nelson of Spiritwood. Her grandchildren Brian (Renee) Trueman, Kirby Trueman, David Trueman, Trevor Trueman, Christopher Trueman, Bradley (Angela) Gampe, Karen (Ken) Trischuk, Kevin (Reigan) Gampe, Stacey Horricks, Michael (Randi) Horricks, Adam (Sandi Thompson) Horricks, Kerrie Horricks, Cole Anderson and her 11 great grandchildren. After marrying Stanley, Nettie lived on a farm 4 miles south of Shellbrook where they raised their family. She became a widow at a young age and later moved to Shellbrook in 1985. Nettie was one of the first tenants of Homestead Place. She was a member of the Legion, Shellbrook Seniors Group, UCW and a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary, Homestead Tenant Association and Mental Health Association. She enjoyed socializing with her many friends participating in activities such as cards, bingo, carpet bowling and eating out. She enjoyed travelling, reading, watching TV, especially game shows and curling. The Service of Remembrance took place on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Seniors Hall in Shellbrook. Delores Beaulac was officiant, special music was done by Murray Hannigan, and organist was Dave Hjertaas. Pallbearers were Michael Horricks, Adam Horricks, Bradley Gampe, Kevin Gampe, Christopher Trueman and Trevor Trueman, A private family interment took place in the Shellbrook Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Project.
