Obituary of Delia Jorgensen

Delia Anne was born on September 18, 1943 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England, to Ida and Fred Blatherwick. At the age of 3, Delia and her family moved, via Troop Ship, to Calcutta, India then to Omnibad, where her brother, David, was born shortly thereafter. Over the years, the family would move a few more times, while her father continued his work as an electrical engineer. However, they would end up calling Tasmania, home. Delia completed the majority of her education while living in Tasmania, attending boarding school in her latter high-school years, then completing her initial post secondary education as a Registered Nurse. Eventually she relocated back to Yorkshire, England to further her education in Midwifery and Public Health. After completing her initial training in England her career took her across the ocean to Canada, where she continued to nurse throughout Northern Saskatchewan in the communities of Ile a la Crosse, Pelican Narrows, Denare Beach, Sandy Bay, Sturgeon Landing, Deschambeault Lake and eventually, La Ronge. She was a dedicated nurse practitioner, delivering many babies or treating the sick, and was instrumental in improving the health care in these communities. While working in Pelican Narrows, she met Merle Jorgensen. They were married in December of 1972 making their permanent home in La Ronge shortly thereafter. In 1975, the first of her three children was born and she balanced a life of work and family, holding various jobs until the early 80's. It was at this time that she became a library technician and began working at the Town of La Ronge Public Library as their librarian. She worked at this location for several years, eventually retiring from the Regional Library in Air Ronge, after approximately two decades. Delia was predeceased by her Mother and Father. She is survived by her husband, Merle; her children, Fred (Yvette), Keith (Stephanie) and their son Logan, Raelene (David) Ronald and their children, Brianna and Gavin; her brother, David (Gaye) Blatherwick; her nephews, Michael and his children, Miles and Gracie; and Robert (Yuko) and their children, Mei and Riku.
