Obituary of Jeannine Ann Megaffin

Jeannine Ann Megaffin (born Dewey), of Prince Albert, SK, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the age of 70. Jeannine was born to parents Thomas and Eleutheria Dewey on November 9, 1949 in Saskatoon, SK. Her early years were spent in Young, SK as the youngest of two children on the family farm run by her parents. After the family moved to Saskatoon, she was in the first graduating class of Holy Cross High School in 1967. Remaining in the city, Jeannine attended the University of Saskatchewan and received her teaching certificate in 1969. In 1970, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Megaffin. The couple moved to Prince Albert shortly after and eventually moved to an acreage near MacDowall, SK. This remains the primary home to this day and a place of great joy for them both as they built their lives together over the next 50 years. To the end, Gary and Jeannine loved to be outside in their gardens working together and enjoying the serenity of the family acreage. Once settled, three children joined the mix. Mom relished the roll of “stay at home mom” and was the center piece to the chaos that a family of five brings. Always involved, Mom supported various school activities, music lessons and sporting events loving to be around people and always willing to lend a hand. She was a people person to the core and wanted to be involved in every aspect of the family’s activities. This did not change as time passed and the kids grew, however she began getting back into teaching at schools in and around Prince Albert. Eventually, she joined Gary on the teaching staff at St. Mary High School. A place special for both which provided wonderful memories and resulted in great lifelong friends. Mom was not afraid to shop. She loved shopping trips with her friends, heading to Saskatoon or anywhere else at the drop of a hat. You never had to ask her twice, if the car was moving she was ready to go on the next adventure. Mom had a desire to see and experience new things and managed to convince dad to travel as they entered the “golden” years. Their trips brought them to the East and West Coasts of Canada, parts of the Caribbean, Alaska and an amazing tour through the UK. Spoiling her grandchildren was a passion. If there was a way to spend time with any of them, Grandma made it happen. Baking cookies, doing art projects, snuggling in for movie-time, building puzzles, having sleepovers and taking CJ and Beca to Saskatoon on day trips kept her on her toes. At times some of the younger grandchildren were simply tiring to even watch running around but Grandma didn’t miss a beat, she was always up for any game they wanted to play or any exploring they wanted to do. Family holidays were another passion. Mom was famous for two things at holiday time: over decorating the house and making way too much food including all that baking! Why we needed six variety of cookies was beyond us, but you never heard complaints! She loved the holidays and wanted each one to be special to all those joining. Joining clubs such as The Red Hat Society provided more opportunity for hijinks with friends, as well as her Aqua-sizing buddies. Jeannine and Gary joined the Klassic Kruisers Kar Klub and spent time at car shows and flipping burgers in the food booths. Early on she was a member of the MacDowall Lioness club and instilled the importance of service and volunteer work in her children. Jeannine is survived by her husband, Gary; her daughter Jennifer (Cory) Durand; her sons Scott (Sarah) Megaffin and Clint Megaffin; five grandchildren, Cory Jo Durand; Brianna, Brooke and Austin Megaffin; Nolan Megaffin; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Eleutheria; her brother, Stanley Dewey; her granddaughter Rebeca Durand; and various aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Jeanine has been cremated and will be interred at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens beside her granddaughter.
