Obituary of Hans "John" Jorgen Hansen
THIS IS MY LIFE
Hans Jorgen “John” Hansen
John was born on July 2, 1940 in Aalborg, Danmark and passed away peacefully on April 22, 2021 in Prince Albert, SK.
John often talked about life on the farm in Hordum, Danmark. His father Kristian was a well-known horse trader/breeder in Danmark. His father had hopes of him following in his footsteps however John had his sights on a different type of horsepower! At a young age John was always building and fixing things. It started with his motorbikes and continued from there. He apprenticed at the GM shop in Thisted in the late 50’s which brought him to Canada in 1962. He loved it here but his mother’s health was failing so he went back home a few years later. One night he met a Danish girl named Ruth and they were married in 1965, with 2 sons following shortly after. In the late 60’s John and Ruth built a successful gas station and auto repair shop. However, Canada was once again calling so along with his wife Ruth, and sons Christian and Claus, they immigrated and settled into Prince Albert on April 26, 1976. He remained here for 45 years working on many people’s cars, motorbikes and VW’s. He taught many young mechanics over the years and some of those have reached out in the past few days.
He had lots of friends over the years, but none quite as special as his hunting/fishing buddies Jim and Joe. He talked of them often.
He loved to talk about sailing, guns, fishing, and all his hobbies with anyone who would listen. Anyone who talked to him knew this. He loved to spend time with his sons and grandsons. His treasured memories were when he enjoyed a trip to Danmark with Nicolaus in 2000 and 2008 and with Porter and Lucas in 2012. In 2015 a trip to the Maritimes allowed him to enjoy a day sailing on the Bluenose II. Porter and Lucas asked the captain if their Papa could hang onto the helm of the sailing ship. He was smiling from ear to ear that day!
He wore his heart on his sleeve and would tear up when he talked of his family back home or those certain songs that pulled at his heart strings. He would often be sitting on the deck enjoying a beer and a Danish Schnapps, and always happy when anyone would join him.
Ruth and John built a beautiful life together.
The family would like to thank everyone for the words of remembrance and support during this difficult time.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth; his son Christian (Barb) and their family Porter and Lucas; and his son Claus (Nicole) and their son Nicolaus; his sister, Vivi Christiansen of Koldby, Danmark; his brother John and his wife Nanna of Thisted, Danmark.
He was predeceased by his parents Kristian and Sara Louise; and his brother-in-law Preben Christiansen all of Danmark.
Per John’s wishes a Private Interment will be held at a later date.
