Obituary of Roger Joseph George Matte

Roger Joseph George Matte, byname Silverback August 8, 1961 – June 7, 2021, 59 years young Roger is survived by his son Trevor Monks (Jodi) and their children Mason and Brooklyn, daughter Wendy Monks-Janzen (Wade) and their children Sophia and Cameron. Siblings Louis, Paul (Annette), Lorraine (Alvin Loff), Alice Russell (Jim), and Marcel (Elaine). Roger is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friend Brent Gaulding. Roger is predeceased by his parents Francis Matte and Adrienne Bourassa, nephew Michael and great nephew JP Junior. Roger was born in Spiritwood, SK, where he lived with his family on the farm in the Wildbear Area. In Roger’s youth years, he worked alongside local farmers, with his younger brother. He later moved on to live in Saskatoon, where he began his career. Followed by, Jubilee Ford and then Sherwood Chev, as a Pre-Delivery Inspector. Roger began his career with CCD Western in 92’, where he started as a labourer, moving his way up to a supervisor position, and ultimately superintendent, residing across Western Canada, until 18’. In 15’, Roger received The Honorary Testimonial for his courageous and meritorious efforts in saving a life; he was proud of this acknowledgment. In his later years, he moved back to reside close to family in Spiritwood, SK. Roger married 79’-92’ to his first love, Yvonne, and mother of his two children, Trevor and Wendy. He later engaged in a common-law relationship with Robyn and her son. He lived the rest of his adventurous life as a bachelor and proud father. Roger was family-oriented, he loved his two children and four grandchildren. He was a great friend, and an even superior brother. Roger was naturally affectionate and he deeply cared. Roger loved to be social; he was a good listener, and regularly made time to reach out to loved ones. He loved to laugh, and he was always the first to wish you well for important celebrations. Roger was a good leader as a boss; he always cared for his employees and they often became part of his family, and where he spent most of his time outside of work. Roger was a hard worker, a helper, and handy with his hands, whether it was renovating, fixing cars, or gardening. Roger loved being in nature. You’d often find him at the lake, riding his motorcycle, snowmobiling, or in earlier times, horseback riding with his brothers. Life with Roger was an adventure for all those he touched his heart with. Due to Covid 19 restrictions a private Gathering will be held at the Spiritwood Cemetery to Celebrate Roger’s Life on Monday June 14, 2021 at 11:00am. Visitation will be held at Beau Lac Funeral Home, Spiritwood on Monday June 14, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Virtual recording will be provided for immediate family that cannot attend.
