Obituary of Marie-Therese "Terry" Denise Leonie Deppeler
Therese Deppeler
April 11, 1940 – March 10, 2021
Terry was born in the Albertville District on April 11, 1940. She was raised on the family farm and attended school until Grade 8. At that time, she was called back to the farm to help raise her many brothers and sisters.
In 1966 she met and married Peter Deppeler. They spent their first couple of years travelling through the oil patch, returning to Prince Albert where Peter worked at the pulp mill, and Terry worked at the hospital.
In 1972, her son David was born, and she stayed home to look after him for the first five years of his life. When David went to school Terry went back to working at the Holy Family Hospital in housekeeping. She loved her job at the hospital, especially working on the Pediatric Ward where she took any chance she could to play with the kids.
Terry spent many years raising her son and tending to her family and her large extended family that she loved to cook for, especially making bread.
She loved lake life, her plants, fishing, and in her later years she watched a lot of curling. Terry’s spiritual life was important to her, she made many trips abroad to Medjugorje, Lourdes, Rome, Thailand, and even Switzerland.
In 2001 she welcomed into her family her daughter-in-law Jennifer, and grandkids Jane and Danny. Shortly they were joined by Matthew.
Terry spent many hours on the road driving down to help around the house and look after her grandkids.
In 2006 she suffered a life-altering stroke, at that time she lost the use of her right leg and arm and her speech. It was at this time that her world changed from being the caregiver and the person who looked out for everybody to a confidante and keeper of secrets.
She led by example, it showed that hard work and a good attitude could keep you happy in life. After her stroke, her granddaughter Samantha came into her life, and even though Grandma couldn't come to Saskatoon to see her as often, she helped teach Samantha to be a strong caring and empathetic young woman.
Terry spent the last 13 years of her in the care of the staff at Good Shepard. The family would like to thank Pat, Renai, and the staff for the love and care they showed her, as she was able to spend her last days and pass away in her own home.
Terry is survived by her son David and daughter-in-law Jennifer; grandchildren Jane Harder (Joel Smith), Daniel Harder, Matthew, and Samantha; her siblings Angeline Huvenaars, Yvonne White, Guy (Irene) Gobeil, Alain (Theresa) Gobeil, and Claudette (Murielle) Gobeil; her sisters-in-law Marie Gobeil and Anne Sharyk; and many nieces & nephews.
She was predeceased by parents Ernest and Jeanne Gobeil; her brothers Marcel, Clement, Arthur, and Raymond; her sisters Jeannine Gobeil and Louise Jenner; her brothers-in-law Martin Huvenaars and Bruce White; and nephew Julien.
