Obituary of Mimmi Schutte

SCHUTTE- Mrs. Mimmi Schutte, late of Parkside, passed away in Whispering Pine Place in Canwood on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Mimmi was born on March 30, 1914 to Eric and Julie Anna Baltare on the family farm near Parkside. Mimmi's first job was to help with housework for the Olsvik family. Irene became seriously ill, so when her mom and dad went to be with her in the hospital, Mimmi was left with six kids, who all had measles at that time. In 1940 Mimmi married Levi Schutte, and settled into a life on the farm. Mimmi was well known for her baking, especially buns and cookies. The coffee was always ready in case friends came by, and visitors were always well fed. She felt that she was closest to God when in the garden, and even after retirement, there were carrots and tomatoes growing between the flowers under the kitchen window. Eventually, it became necessary to move to Whispering Pine Place, and she was very grateful for the care she received there. Her faith in her Lord was strong and carried her through many hard times during her ninety five years of life. Mimmi leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Ruth Rask of Prince Albert; her brother, Erwin (Joan) Baltare of Lake Cowichan BC; her sisters-in-law, Eileen Baltare, Bernice Baltare, Kaye Baltare; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Levi Schutte; her brothers, Elif, Ernest, Bill, Robert, Alex, Henry and Gunnar Baltare; her brother-in-law, Swan Rask. The funeral service was held at the Parkside Pentecostal Church with Pastor David Baldock and Pastor Peter Nolan as officiants. Mrs. Beulah Nolan read the eulogy. The pianist was Terry Martin, and there was a solo by Albert Hannigan. The pallbearers were Mark Baltare, Darrell Rask, Brian Rask, Sheldon Grimm, Lyle Schutte, Leslie Schutte. Memorial donations may be made to the choice of the donor. Interment was in the Parkside Cemetery.
