Obituary of Frank Mazurek

Frank Mazurek    

 October 16, 1939 – August  4, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Frank Mazurek.    He was surrounded by the love of his family who were his greatest gems on this earth.

Frank will be dearly remembered and forever missed by: his wife, Faith Mazurek.  His three children and their families, Darron (Angela) Mazurek of Calgary (Brendon, Morgan), Tricia (Clint) Weiland of Saskatoon (Avery, Evan), and Lori (Stan) Neigum of Saskatoon (Nick, Julia).

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Nellie Mazurek; his mother-in-law, Ruth Hetland; his father-in-law, Orville Hetland; his brother-in-law, Ray Leicht;  and his sister-in-law, Judy Roy. 

Frank was born on October 16, 1939, and grew up on a farm south of Krydor with Redberry Lake in his backyard.   Frank loved sharing his many fond memories of the hours spent with his Grandma Mazurek on the homestead.  He shared her love of gardening, the value of hard work, and stories of the past.   His Dad and Grandma passed on their Ukrainian traditions and were instrumental in the famous perogies and cabbage rolls we all have loved over the years.    Frank’s hard work ethic brought him to Blaine Lake where he worked at Reliance Lumber and then later formed a partnership with Sam at Blaine Lake Lumber.  Frank embraced small-town life and the kinship of sports, cards, and comradery it brought him.   In 1973 Frank met the love of his life in Blaine Lake and their life journey began together.

Frank and Faith moved to Shellbrook in 1974 where Frank managed North American Lumber.  In 1978 they moved to the Shellbrook Motel where he took on the manager role for the next 20 years.     They lovingly raised three children Darron, Tricia, and Lori.  Frank’s love of ball and hockey was fostered in the community and he was an active supporter of the local sports teams, the Shellbrook Elks and the SilverTips.  Frank coached all three of his children in softball and loved sharing his passion of the game with others.  Frank devoted countless hours to the local Kinsmen and K-40 clubs and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.    He loved family time at Candle Lake where swimming, cards, blueberry, and mushroom picking were his hobbies.     Frank ended his career working maintenance at the Parkland Terrace and Shellbrook Hospital.  His love of gardening and yard work brought beauty and enjoyment to the seniors of Shellbrook.

Frank enjoyed the value of hard work.  Nothing was ever wasted or taken for granted.  He could always find something to be done and always had a hand to lend to anyone in need.   Family meant the world to Frank. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was their number 1 fan.   He spent every opportunity he could with those he loved dearly.   During their 48 years together Frank and Faith built a beautiful family and FAMILY was his most prized possession.

Please join us in the celebration of Frank’s life on Tuesday, August 10^th at 1:00 p.m. at St Agatha’s Parish in Shellbrook.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan Inc. at 1405 Faulkner Cres, Saskatoon SK S7L 3R5
