Obituary of Arlene Yvonne Macdonald

Mrs. Arlene Macdonald 1943 - 2009 It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Macdonald who passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at the age of 65. Arlene was born Wednesday July 7, 1943 @ 1:15 pm at the Canwood Nursing Home. She was the eldest daughter and second of seven children of Alex and Esther (Weaver) Anderson. She enjoyed picnics, picking berries, pulled taffy, homemade ice cream and her family. Arlene married Doug Macdonald November 10, 1960 and moved to La Ronge where they resided until July 1998 when they moved to Shellbrook, closer to their family. In 1961 their daughter, Michelle was born. Arlene enjoyed her work at Angler's Inn and later at Red's Camp. Her and Doug were involved with the Royal Purple and the Elk's and helped build and maintain the Elk's Hall in La Ronge. She enjoyed boating (Mooney Bay), snowmobiling, entertaining, playing cards and their cabin at Waden Bay. Doug and Arlene enjoyed many wonderful vacations with friends and family and for a few years winter in Lake Havasu, Arizona. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren (Roy & Sandi) and the visits alone with them. She was very proud of them and the individuals they become. Arlene will be lovingly remembered by her husband Doug; her daughter Michelle (Rick) Thompson; her grandchildren Roy (Kristy Webber) Thompson and Sandi (Adam Horricks) Thompson; her mother Esther Fisher; her brother Andy (Sam) Anderson; her sisters Elaine (Allan) Folden, Wendy Switenky, Vickie (Cliff) Herzog, Dawne (Terry) Switenky; her sister in-law Marlene Anderson, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Arlene was predeceased by an infant son Randy; her father Alex Anderson; her brother Edward Anderson; her step father Arnold Fisher; her special friend Lorraine Vancoughnett. In lieu of flowers and other tributes a donation can be made to the Shellbrook & Districts Health Services Project. A Come & Go Memorial Tea was held on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Legion Hall in Shellbrook from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date.
