Obituary of Janice Marian Mennie

Janice Demro married her love, Wayne Mennie, 56 years ago.  They started their life together in Edmonton and then Beaverlodge, AB, where they became a family of 4, with daughter, Denise and son, Bob.  In 1976 they moved back to the Mennie family farm near Parkside, SK, where they have resided ever since.

Jan was a hardworking and successful woman.  She played an active and important role in both their grain farming and leafcutter bee businesses.  She and Wayne spent many years traveling between the farm in Canada and their leafcutter bee business stationed in Nampa, Idaho.  Jan was always busy as cook, farm labourer, bookkeeper, and manager of all things!

But her favourite title and role in life was that of “Nan”.  Her three granddaughters, Taya, Jillian, and Leah, meant the world to her.  You could see the joy and love in her beautiful blue eyes whenever she spoke of her “girls”.  She loved that Bob and Nicole and their little farm girls made their home right next door to Nan.  She adored spending time with the girls, and together they built precious memories and traditions. 

Jan enjoyed and excelled at crafting scrapbooking, pottery, baking, and cooking.  She enjoyed music and was a fan of sports, especially baseball and tennis.  She loved camping and traveling in their motorhome.  She had fantastic style and was a very generous gift-giver.  She could tell great stories and loved to visit.  She knew how to love, and was well-loved in return.

Jan lived with COPD for many years.  She inspired us with her strength and will to live.  But, with no cure for this disease, her health declined over the last few years.  Her daughter, Denise, and the home care nurses provided such wonderful care to Jan which allowed her to stay in her own home to the end.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shellbrook Home Care.

 A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. 

Jan “Nan” will be forever cherished, loved, and missed by her family.
