Obituary of Mildred Elva Allen

ALLEN- Mrs. Mildred Allen, cherished mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 16, 2009 in the Shellbrook hospital. Grandma was born on May 11, 1917 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan to Luke and Mary Whelan. She had four sisters and three brothers, to whom she remained close with all their lives. Grandma worked as a telephone operator in Birch Hills until 1940 when she married Tom Allen, and moved to a homestead in Lone Spruce. She had a daughter, Gwen, and a son, Gary, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Grandma was very proud of her family and loved spending time with us. Grandma was very active in her community and loved to curl, play cards, scrabble, bingo, knit, and do crosswords. She loved to visit with people and was happiest when working at Mayview Store. Grandma knew that relationships with family and friends are important in life and always made other people her priority. She taught us to laugh often and loud. In 1996 she moved from the farm to Shellbrook and continued to enjoy the company of friends and family. Grandma is survived by daughter, Gwen (Jerry) Carlson; son Gary (Delores) Allen; grandchildren Tracy (Ron) Dupuis, Todd (Lesley) Carlson, Tricia (Fran) Lucyshyn, Coralie and Collette Allen; great grandchildren Chantal, Juste and Braden Dupuis, Justin LaFaver, Cole and Ryan Carlson, Brooklyn and Carter Lucyshyn; great great grand daughter Kaya Dupuis; sister Ettie Cook; sisters-in-law Betty Allen, Lorna Whelan.
