Fran Aiken

Obituary of Fran Aiken

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Fran Aiken on Nov 19, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Meath Park, SK, at the age of 86.

Fran was born in Beatty SK, on Feb. 21, 1935 to her parents Charles and Elsie (nee Wittynek) Morrison. She was raised on the family farm in Spruce Home along with her sister Evelyn and brothers Bobby and Bill. Fran attended Centerville School until she had to leave at the age of 14 to look after her brothers and sister while her mother was in the Sanatorium. Her passion for learning led her back to the classroom. She graduated from the Convent in Prince Albert in 1954. After graduation, Fran went to Teacher’s College in Saskatoon. After finishing her first year of schooling, she got her first teaching job at Emma Lake. This ignited her passion for teaching. She taught at many schools, including: Emma Lake, Prince Charles, Wild Rose, Uranium City, Meath Park High, Red Wing and finally Meath Park Public School where she taught Grade 1 for 19 years.

On August 1,1956 Fran married Raymond Aiken and they set up their first home at Red Wing Terrace. In 1958 they moved to Uranium City, joining their great friends Lloyd and Rose Forrest.

In 1962 Fran and Ray along with Lloyd and Rose settled in Meath Park. They purchased the Meath Park Hotel, then shortly after they started Meath Park Electric. Fran continued to teach. Fran and Ray started a family - they were blessed with a daughter, Raelene and a son, Milton.

In 1969, Fran and Ray purchased a small house and moved it to the Joe Haydukewich subdivision at Candle Lake. Fran took many trips around the world, but she always said there was no place like Candle Lake.

Fran was very active in the community, organizing many curling bonspiels, ball tournaments, and hockey games. The Meath Park Polka Festival was Fran’s favorite event. Fran also did volunteer work in Prince Albert, for the Canadian Cancer Society, Saskatchewan Summer Games and Share.

There was never an event going on that Fran wasn’t a part of in one way or another. Her hard work and love of socializing stayed with her until her final days. She never wanted to miss out on anything!

After losing Ray to cancer in 1990 and retiring from teaching, she poured her heart and soul into her volunteer work with the Cancer Society along side her sister, Evelyn.

Once her life with Lloyd began, they were one busy couple. They travelled the world and enjoyed many activities, such as snowmobiling, bowling, dancing, quadding, boating, swimming, gardening, ice fishing, cycling, and playing cards.

Fran loved being a Grandma and later a Great-Grandma. The children meant the world to her. She always loved spending time with them.

Fran enjoyed many bus trips with her sister, Evelyn. They travelled to many parts of Canada and South Dakota.

One great achievement for Fran was the Meath Park Polka Festival.  It was known to be the best in the WEST! Fran and Lloyd were very proud of the money raised to help the community. Alongside a dedicated group, the festival was always a success. People came from across Saskatchewan, and other provinces.

Fran is survived by: her loving husband of 29 years, Lloyd Forrest; her children: Raelene (Len) Lupichuk, and Milton (Marie) Aiken, and Lloyd’s children: Elaine (Ron) Cridland, Noreen (Ted) Hodgson and Lyle Forrest; her Grandchildren: Jody (Michael) Hydamacka, Donny Aiken, Jessica Larson (Mohamed), Nicolette Larson, Josh Forrest, Brayden (Michelle) Cridland, Nathan Cridland, Donovan Cridland, Tarra (Miranda) Forrest, Rebecca (Justin) Markling, Nolan Forrest, and Breane Forrest; her Great-Grandchildren: Jaiden, Willow, Hesper, Olive , Rose, Pearl, Brooklyn, Charlie, Penelope, Hunter, Fletcher, Hannah, and Harper; her Brother, Bill (Wendy) Morrison; her sister-in-law, Sandi Aiken; her brother-in-law, William Richards; as well as several nieces and nephews.
