CAIN - Darren
On the 17th of November 2021 Darren, aged 52, passed away in hospital surrounded by his family. Darren Anthony Cain was born on the 4th of May 1969 in Winchester, England to Bernard “Tony” and Anne Cain. In 1974 they moved from England to Holbein. They moved to a farm near Shellbrook, then to Big River, then back to the farm where he completed high school. Darren completed a heavy-duty mechanic course and then his 1A. He also moved to Alberta for a while and worked. In 1994 he met Angeline Hanson and they lived together in Prince Albert. Deciding that a small town was better for their family, they moved to Canwood where they raised their three children.
Darren worked many different jobs during his life, including delivering gas for the Co-op and working as a farmhand. He loved trucking, and at one point proudly owned his own semi. He worked quite a few years for Wally Wilson Trucking. He also spent a season on the ice roads in the Northwest Territories. While on these trips he would have his dog, Deke, as a companion and take pictures to show his children when he came back home.
From a young age, Darren loved the outdoors. He was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, trapping, or camping and enjoyed taking his family on these outings. When not outdoors he was most likely in his shop fixing something or building something for his next project. In the summers he took pride in his garden and the vegetables he grew. In more recent years he took up leatherworking and created beautiful pieces for his friends and family.
Darren will be remembered for being a hard worker and having a sense of humour. When asked how he was doing he always replied, “Oh, still alive and kicking and getting uglier,” which usually got a laugh out of the person who asked. He will also be remembered for how deeply he cared for his family.
Darren is survived by his wife Angeline “Lynn” Hanson; children Lynette (Saskatoon), Waylon (Regina), Briar (Holbein); his mother Anne; sister Louise (Vernon, BC); and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Darren was predeceased by his father, Bernard “Tony”; his uncle Christopher; his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
A private get-together to celebrate Darren’s life will be held in the spring.
