Obituary of Malita Roode
ROODE, Malita Ruth, late of Meath Park, SK passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022, at the Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 84.
Ruth was born on February 21, 1938 at home on the farm in the Avebury District, near Leask, SK. She and her brother Ken would walk two and a half miles to school. They moved into Leask where Ruth completed high school. She then went to the Nursing School in Prince Albert, SK and graduated as an RN in 1959.
Ruth married Albert Roode on November 5, 1960. They moved to Calgary, AB where Ruth worked at the General Hospital. She eventually became the head night nurse for the Emergency Department. She loved nursing and living close to the mountains where they explored every chance they could.
Susan was born in April 1966. Ruth then chose to stay at home and be a mom.
With Albert’s job, they moved around until finally settling in Meath Park in 1973. Ruth enjoyed being part of the community. Curling, cheering on hockey, working in the rink and later running the lunch wagon for the fire department at auctions and other events. She loved that she was close to the forest and many beautiful lakes where they camped, fished and picked berries.
She also loved to garden and at one time had 3 giant gardens to harvest, can, freeze and to make sure anyone that wanted fresh veggies would have some. She also loved doing ceramics and made and sold many items.
Mostly she loved to have people over for coffee or a meal. She was a good cook and always cooked lots as you’d never know who would be around at mealtime. A card game or dice would come out for an evening of fun.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her husband Albert; daughter, Susan (Emil Groves); grandson, Casey; son-in-law, Doyle Dean; sisters-in-law, Margie Monus, Opal Harris, Faye Philip (Don), Margaret Roode, Phyllis Soles and Shirley Roode; brothers-in-law, Ken Roode, Alvin Roode (Florence) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elek and Mary (nee Valuck) Monus; parents-in-law, John and Gladys (nee Guthrie) Roode; brother, Kenneth Monus; an infant son, brothers-in-law, Clarence Harris, Mervin Roode and Lawrence Soles; and her sister-in-law, Lynn Roode.
