Elma Anderson

Obituary of Elma Florence Anderson

Elma Florence (nee: Michelson) Anderson was born on November 18, 1924, on the homestead in the Norbury district. She passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2022 at Whispering Pine Place Nursing Home in Canwood at the age of 97 years. She was just 3 months shy of her 98th birthday. Elma attended school in Westwood until grade 10 and Grade 11 in Shellbrook, then her Grade 12 by correspondence at home on the farm. She started teaching at the early age of 18 at the Balsamdale school in the Polwarth area. She met Alloys Anderson, and they were married on July 18, 1945, and moved to the Anderson homestead and lived there until 1983 when they moved to a new home in Canwood. Elma belonged to the Lilyan Vasa Lodge and was a loyal and proud member of the Canwood Royal Purple for 60 years. She took part in various fundraising for all community events including the Elks Hall, Whispering Pine Place, the Skating Rink, and softball diamonds at the Regional Park.  When she wasn’t volunteering in her community, she spent her time being a typical farm wife, raising two boys, cooking for the family, looking after a huge garden, crocheting, and the thing she loved most was reading. She was very interested in politics and loved to have many conversations with folks about it. She enjoyed her soaks in the bathtub, probably even doing a little relaxing and reading while soaking.  She loved visiting with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors. She was able to stay in her home until December of 2019 when she made the move to Whispering Pine Place Nursing Home where she remained until her passing. The family is very grateful to the staff of Whispering Pine Place for all the great care she received while there.

Elma leaves to mourn her passing; her two sons, Larry (Linda) Anderson of Innisfail, AB. and Richard (Debbie) Anderson of Canwood, SK., a sister, Doris (Ed) Horn, a brother-in-law, Sam Dixon, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Elma was predeceased by her parents, Einar and Ada Michelson, her husband, Alloys in 1995, and sisters; Helen (Elmer) Peterson, Dorothy (Clifford) Wall, and Janice Dixon.

A private family Graveside service with Delores Beaulac as the officiant was held on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 11:00 am in the Canwood South Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Elma may be made to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children.
