Marie Staus Obituary:

June 29, 1932 – December 11, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother & “Granny”, Marie Staus, on December 11, 2022, in Shellbrook, SK, at the age of 90 years.

Marie was born June 29, 1932, at her grandmother’s home near Hawkeye, SK. She was the eldest child of Ewald and Annie Gampe. Marie’s early years were spent on the farm in Silvergrove District near the Wingard Ferry. She spent those years helping on the farm, attending a one-room school, and socializing with family & neighbours. She moved to Shellbrook for her high school years. She wanted to be a teacher, so decided to take a job as a teaching supervisor at Rothermere School, south of Spiritwood. In Marie’s words, she fell in “instant love” with George Staus when she met him at a dance. They were married on October 26, 1953 and were married for 54 years. After they were married, they lived in Spiritwood and then decided to fix up the old house on the farm, south of town. They were blessed with the birth of their baby girl, Cheryl Ann. Marie kept busy as a mother, working on the farm, in the garden and in the cafes in town. In 1999, George & Marie moved to their new house in Spiritwood. After George passed, Marie kept busy with her family & friends. She loved to travel, attend live music events, be involved with her church and volunteering. She was always busy in the summers in her yard, producing a bountiful garden and beautiful flowers. She was always proud of her awards she received from the Horticultural Society. She sewed beautiful clothes, curtains & gifts over the years. She was an amazing cook and her pies, jams, baking, holidays meals, etc. will be greatly missed. She loved to include everyone and was a very kind & generous person. She had the most loving smile & presence.

Marie is lovingly remembered by her daughter: Cheryl (Greg) Turgeon and their family: Meagan (Tyson) Walter and their daughters: Winnie & Ruby, Michelle (Rhett) Fairburn and their daughter: Gabrielle, her sister: Elsie (Dan) Wurst, her brother: Arthur Gampe, her sister-in-law: Marlene Lindgren, her brother-in-law: Norbert Staus, also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends.
