Anna Mikula

Obituary of Anna Mikula

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Anna “Ann” Mikula of Prince Albert.  She passed away peacefully in hospital on December 27, 2022, at the age of 89 years.  Mrs. Mikula is survived by her 4 daughters, Maria (Wayne) Billay, Ursula Mikula, Dorothy Bergren and Elizabeth (Terry) Stefanski; her 8 grandchildren, Jason Kelm and children, Ethan, Signi, Karver, Kortana, Kailyx and Axton, Chantel (Arg) Gafour and children, Treyvon & Larkin, Tyler (Shelley) Billay, Emily (Chris) Molenaar and children, Julian and Luke, Mike Bergren (Julie Rowley) and Elliot, Andrea Michalezki (Levi Currie) and Cole, Chad Stefanski (Bretlyn Polischuk) and children, Emery and Bently, Donovan (Cassie) Stefanski and Zepherin; her brother Hansi (Freda) Fantur; her sister-in-law, Kathi Fantur; as well as several very special relatives in Austria and Switzerland.  She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Fred; her sisters, Josephine and Loisi; her brother, Hugo; and great-grandbabies, who are now angels, including Olivia and Sullivan Billay.

Ann was born November 4, 1933, in Karnten, Austria to Anna (nee Kopeinig) and Johann Fantur.  She was the second youngest of 5 children.  After completing grade school, she apprenticed as a seamstress and tailor.  On February 27,1954 she married Fred Mikula. He was without a doubt the love of her life. On November 5, 1956 the family immigrated to Canada, first spending 4 months in Ontario, then to Prince Albert.  In the late 1960s Mom started working from home as a tailor for Ted Mathesons Mens Wear.  After 13 years she changed careers and worked as a special care aide at Pineview Nursing Home and in the laundry at Mont St. Josephs Home. Her last position before she retired was as a housekeeper for Bishop Blaise Morand.  Mom was involved with the CWL, the German club, was a volunteer at Victoria Hospital and in singing groups.  Over the years she made many long-lasting friendships and was very much loved for her kindness and generosity.  Mom loved her trips back to Austria to visit family and friends. There was always a lot of hugging, singing around the table and laughter.  Mom's greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was so proud of each and every one and loved them so much.

Many thanks to the staff at River Breeze for the care provided over the past year.  Also thank you for the compassion and care provided by the ER and lab staff at the Victoria Hospital at the time of Mom's passing.
