Obituary of Leonard George Locke

Leonard George Locke

February 3, 1944 - January 13, 2023

Leonard George Locke passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023, at his farm near Glaslyn, SK at the age of seventy-eight, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.  The youngest of nine children, Leonard was born February 3, 1944, to William and Edith (Taylor).  He married Maxine Lockhart on July 26, 1968, and together they raised five children.

Leonard did not come from opportunity but through his toil and labor, together with Maxine, advanced his circumstances and shaped a better future.  Life did not come without challenges, nonetheless, he adopted a work hard, play hard approach.

Leonard and Maxine began their married life on a farm north of Glaslyn while he worked at Dmytryshyn and Sons, then Lofts Garage.  In 1972, Leonard and Maxine purchased a quarter of land east of Glaslyn.  Additionally, he worked as an equipment operator with L&M Wood Products for over thirty-five years.  Leonard and Maxine purchased dairy cattle and shipped cream for ten years before expanding into grain farming.

The unique bond Leonard had with his children, grandchildren, and those he came into contact with was fostered through his willingness to lend a hand.  The fishing and camping trips captured his heart and the stories he shared made everyone smile.  Leonard’s wit was as prevalent as his viewpoints but his kindness and affinity for those in need motivated many of his actions.  His proudest moments were working in the field with his family, thoughtfully discerning the tasks at hand but always ready to tackle the day.  His daily phone calls to check in, to ask about the weather or to simply grumble will be missed and leave a huge void.

Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-four years, Maxine; his children: Warren (Diana), Celeste (Todd), Travis (Lori), Dennis (Caroline), Darryl (Jill).  Left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Christy (Brad), Dylan (Brooklyn), Jacqueline (Cody), Joyceline, Kelsey, Madison, Hadden, Breanne, Katelyn, Rooen, Kobielle, Addison, Carter, Easton, as well as great grandchildren: Mya, Emmett and Aurelia.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Shirley Lockhart, sisters-in-law: Sandra Lockhart, Lisa Lockhart, Jennifer Opper, Debbie Locke, brothers-in-law: David Lockhart, Ronald Stephenson: sister, Florence Macleod, as well as numerous extended family and friends.  Leonard is predeceased by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and father-in-law, David Lockhart.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Friend’s may make donations to a Charity of their choice in memory of Leonard Locke as tokens of remembrance.
