Obituary of Ida .G. Nordby
NORDBY- Mrs. Ida Nordby, age 93, late of rural Shellbrook, passed away in the Shellbrook Hospital on January 9, 2010. Ida was born on January 7, 1917 on the farm in the Ordale district. She grew up helping with farm chores, and attended the Bygland school. Ida was confirmed at the Concordia Church, where she played the organ, sang in the choir and was in the Luther League program. She worked for many years in the general store in the Ordale district for her sister and brother in law Freda & Sam Zubic. She married Peder Nordby in 1940, and they both worked for Canada Post. Ida served as postmistress in Ordale while Peder served in the army, and upon his return they took up farming. As well as raising two children on the farm, Ida milked cows, raised chickens, drove the tractor, cooked for threshing crews, and always loved to tend to her large flower gardens. She still found time to curl at the Ordale rink. Later, she had grandchildren and great grandchildren which were her pride and joy. Ida will live forever in our hearts and we feel fortunate to have had her in our lives. Ida will be remembered and sadly missed by her son Donald; her daughter Diane (Les) Puddicombe; her grandchildren, Donna (Daren) Marquis, David (Charlene) Puddicombe, Karen (Colin) Muller; her great grandchildren, Alyssa and Brendan Marquis, Rielle Puddicombe; a sister, Freda Zubic; her sister in laws and brother-in-law, Virginia Johnson, Jeannette Bakos, Rita Nordby, Harriet & Ole Melin; countless nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives in Canada, USA and Norway. Ida was predeceased by her husband, Peder; her parents Fred and Lisbet Johnson; her sisters, Gena (Gunder) Langerak, Emma (Ervin) Odegaard, Bertha (Wallace) Nermo, Laura (George) Langerak; her brothers, infant siblings (twin boys) and Fritz Johnson; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Leslie Bakos, Sam Zubic, Marvil Nordby, Rolland (Elsie) Nordby, James (Kay) Nordby, Wallace (Margaret) Nordby, Ferdinand Nordby, Erchil (Nellie) Nordby, Evelyn (Thor) Thorson, Blanche (Eddie) Olson, Shirley (Ken) Forrest. The funeral service was held at the Senior's Hall in Shellbrook on January 16, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chris Dean as officiant. The eulogy was read by Lorraine Saam. There was special music from the Ordale Singers. The pallbearers were Glenn Nordby, Eddie Strelau, Lorraine Saam, Wayne Saam, Stanley Skavlebo, Darrin Thompson. Memorial donations may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Broadcast, or the Shellbrook and Districts Health Services Project. Interment was in the North Concordia Cemetery.
