Gilbert “Gib” Sabourin

Gilbert “Gib” Sabourin was born in 1937 in the Hoey area to Ovide and Justine (nee Caron) Sabourin. He attended Teachers College in Saskatoon in 1955 and then taught school for two years. In 1965, he began a 37-year career with Canada Cement (Lafarge), retiring in 2003. Gib married Verlyn Pouliot in 1961 and were blessed with two sons, Darren and Douglas. Gib was predeceased by his wife, Verl in 2012, his parents, as well as his brother Wilfred and sister Joan. He is survived by his sons, Darren (Karen) and children Mitchell and Madison, Doug (Tami Paine) and children Jennifer, Dustin, Jesse, Curtis and Scott. Aside from his love of dogs, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Gib and Verl spent many winters in Palm Springs where they could escape the cold winters and continue golfing in warmer weather. In the summers, they enjoyed their trailer at Christopher Lake. At Gib’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Gib’s ashes will be joining Verl’s at the Columbarium at St. John's Cathedral in Saskatoon.
