Obituary of Victor Arcand
In Loving Memory of Vic Arcand It is with great sadness that the family and friends announce the passing of Victor Arthur Arcand, age 65, which occurred after a lengthy battle with illness. Vic was born on April 1, 1944, near Winter Lake, Saskatchewan, son of Victor and Emma Arcand. His courageous struggle ended on January 11, 2010 with his family by his side at the Big River Health Center. Vic attended school at Jackson Lake until grade 8, he then worked for area farmers and various jobs, near home. In 1960 at the age of 16, Vic found his life's calling "logging", from falling logs with an axe and skidding with horses for Chalifour/Granberg to falling logs with a chainsaw and skidding with a line skidder for Sask-Pulp, to using feller bunchers/mechanical logging for pulp mills and sawmills throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. Vic was considered by the logging industry as being one of the best in the trade. The last few years prior to his illness he was a sawfiler employed by Carrier Lumber near Pinehouse and then Prince Albert. In 1965 Vic married Trudy Mattson and together they raised 3 wonderful children, Keith, Aaron, and Trinity. They lived in Saskatchewan until moving to Alberta in 1981. Then in 1994 he moved back to Saskatchewan, and lived in Debden, where he met the love of his life, Lucille Scott and her son Claude. Vic enjoyed life to the fullest, he sang old country songs and played guitar, he loved traveling, hunting, fishing, playing cards, picking wild mushrooms, visiting with family and friends. He had a competitive spirit which led him to winning numerous chainsaw competitions at the P.A. Winter Festival, numerous curling bonspiels, including the National Aboriginal Curling Championship, World Arizona Horseshoe Championship, billiards and golf tournaments. Vic leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Lucille of Debden, SK, his son Keith (Penny) of Mayerthorpe, AB, his son Aaron (Tracy) of Blue Ridge, AB, his daughter Trinity Arcand Trahan of Seattle, Washington, USA and his step-son Claude (Londa) Larose of Saskatoon, SK, nine grand-daughters, Julia, Janine, Lily, Eva, Cloe, Allanna, Samantha, Chenoa and Sekoya and one grandson Lliam, the mother of his children, Trudy Mattson of Mayerthorpe, AB, six brothers, John (Vicki) of Saskatoon, SK, Norm (Diane) of Debden, SK, Ralph (Lorna) of Debden, Sask, Orville (Darlene) of Big River, SK, Donald (Betty Ann) of Edmonton, AB, George (Cheryl) of Leoville, SK. Two sisters Linda (Edward) Beaulac of Whitecourt, AB, Shirley Arcand (Kevin) of North Battleford, SK, One brother-in-law, Warren Morley, Meath Park, SK and the Scott family as well as the numerous nieces and nephews which he loved dearly and other friends and family. Vic was predeceased by his father Victor Arcand Sr. in 1975, his mother Emma Arcand (nee Loyie) in 2006, his sister Emily Andersen Morley in 2006 and his nephew Jean-Guy Arcand in 1990. The prayer service was held Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7:00 pm from St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Debden. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 10:30 am at the St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Debden with Rev. Fr. Bernabe Millan Sajonas as celebrant. The eulogy was given by Wanda Neufeldt and Monica Svendsen, crossbearers Amber McSorley and Shelby McSorley. Honorary Pallbearers were "All his relatives, curling buddies, golf buddies, card playing buddies and friends". Active Pallbearers were Lance Arcand, Chris Collins, Clinton Arcand, Darryl Dore, Jordan Arcand and Jason Suderman. In lieu of flowers donations memorial donations may be made to the Lakewood Lodge Ladies Auxiliary in Big River, SK. Vic was laid to rest at the Park Valley Cemetery.
