Roger Lyle Carey

1964-2023

 

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Roger Lyle Carey at the age of 59. Roger died of a heart attack on April 19th, 2023, at his home near Canwood, Saskatchewan.

Roger was born in Shellbrook and raised on the family farm in the RM of Canwood, SK. In his youth, Roger helped out on the farm, played many high school sports, and was a member of the 4-H club. After high school, Roger trained as a heavy-duty mechanic at the Saskatoon Kelsey campus. Roger worked in numerous occupations including stints at the Patience Lake potash mine, the Prince Albert pulp and paper mill, and in construction and farming. Roger was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing. He had a larger-than-life personality and enjoyed having a laugh and playing music with his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his children, Alex (Stephanie), Erik (Jennine), and Sarah Carey; stepdaughter Aubrey (Jeremy) Cartier; mother Christle Carey; his brothers Sandy (Diane) Carey and Travis (Julia) Carey; sister Judy Carey; niece Danielle (Brandyn) Wasilyw; and his nephews; Bryan Grimwood and Devin Carey. Roger was predeceased by his father Wallace Carey.

There will be a Celebration of Life held for Roger on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Canwood Elk’s Community Hall with Delores Beaulac officiating. A time of refreshments and fellowship will follow the service at the hall.

In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Roger to the Canwood Regional Park Golf Course – Box 337 Canwood, SK S0J 0K0.
