Violet Achen

Obituary of Violet Lydia Achen

Violet “Vi” Lydia Achen (nee Neumann) was born February 5, 1935, and passed away May 15, 2023 at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert.

Born in Jansen, Vi and her family lived in several towns throughout Saskatchewan. After finishing high school in Regina, Vi attended Eston’s Full Gospel Bible Institute – her faith and her church were important to her throughout her life. She then went to Winnipeg to complete her nursing training at Grace Hospital. On her return to Saskatchewan, she nursed for more than 3 decades in acute and long term care.

Vi married Richard “Dick” in 1965 and they raised their three daughters in Saskatoon. Vi was an avid supporter of her children’s sports, music and school events, and gave back to the community through volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society and almost 20 years with the Saskatoon Centennial Lions. Vi was fond of travelling, with Dick and with her family, within Canada and beyond.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether that was playing bridge with a neighbourhood group, chatting over a cup of coffee, or opening their home to family wanting to spend the night when passing through town.

Vi was predeceased by her husband Richard “Dick”; parents, Adolf and Wilhelmine Neumann (nee Eigler); sister, Anne Hobman; brothers, Gus and Ed, and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.  She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Melanie (Alan Paige) of Burnaby, BC, Tanya (Tyler Kinash) and their daughter Harper of Prince Albert, and Charity (Brook) and their children Keller and Piper Harrington of Lower Sackville, NS; sister, Mary (Bill) Danchek; sister-in-law, Doreen O’Grady and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Louise Avenue Congregational Church, 1602 Louise Ave., Saskatoon, SK.
