Grant Moore

Obituary of Grant Ernest Moore

In our mourning we announce the passing of Grant Ernest Moore.  He left for his eternal home on May 15, 2023.  Grant arrived earth side May 23, 1936.  Born during the depression on a farm in the Bruce Mines, Ontario area, Grant grew up learning a strong work ethic and was raised primarily by his mother and 4 uncles, as he lost his father as a toddler.   He often spoke of the strong values he gained from the hardships he lived during the depression.  Despite how hard they seemed, he always spoke positively and with such fondness of his memories and experiences in his childhood.

In 1957 he married Marilyn Craig in Prince Albert where they started their family. Grant worked for the Department of Transport as a radio operator and was fluent in morse code. His first station was in Coral Harbour at age 19.  He was later transferred to Winnipeg airport and then onto Prince Albert airport.

Grant transitioned into his lifelong career as a sign artist in 1964, opening his own business, Moore Signs, in 1967 which he ran until retirement.

Grant was well known for his Grey Owl mural downtown Prince Albert on Central and 9th Avenue.   He was one of the original members of the Kyla Art Group and also taught art classes at the art center.  As a young father Grant joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was active in his faith throughout his life.

After Grant’s wife, Marilyn, passed away in 2009, he was blessed to be united with Linda Konowalchuk who also shared his faith, and they spent the remainder of his time on earth together.  He and Linda spent 2 years in Salt Lake City, serving the church in the Family History Department.  Grant’s passions included art and genealogy but most of all the love and care he had for his family.

Always the type of person to help anyone in need, he was truly his brother’s keeper.

Grant was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Irene; his stepfather, Clarence; his wife, Marilyn; his son, Steven; and his grandson, Clayton.  He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Linda Moore; his daughters, Carla (Frank) Lund, Dawn (Keith) Hegedus, Alicia (Darren) Griffin; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Connie (Art) Bennett and Carey (Jerry) Sauve.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 452 30th Street East, Prince Albert.
