Matilda Demerais

Obituary of Matilda Margaret Demerais

Matilda Demerais late of Prince Albert, SK, passed away on May 24th, 2023, at Mont St. Joseph Care Home. At the age of 80.  Matilda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  Mom always considered others before herself, she was a loving individual who taught us how to treat others and to be kind to each other, how to cook and clean at a very young age. Mom was a great helper to her children providing guidance in her own special way. Every spring she would buy each of us a new spring coat, that made us feel very special.  Mom started her work career at the age of 14 working as a care provider in private homes, working at the Training School and Nursing Home.  She had her own daycare in her home for 16 years, she enjoyed seeing the children growing up.  Matilda married Howard Demerais on March 20th, 1976, and they shared 47 years together.  She became her husband’s helper learning carpentry skills, and working on various projects with ease, she enjoyed participating with Howard to make their home a home.  Mom was a clean and organized person taking pride in her home with decorating and collecting  ornaments.  She had a great love for gardening and tending her flower beds.  Many memories were made over the years, camping, drive-in theatres, fishing, picnics, and barbeques, Sunday drives for ice cream and exploring old homesteads.  Matilda looked forward to all the holidays and wanted her children home.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, garage sales, playing bingo in which, her biggest win was a vehicle, she loved to try new recipes, she could cook anything, from canning, to doughnuts, bread, Chinese food.  Mom loved to watch her soap operas throughout the years, listening to country music and enjoyed having relatives and friends come to visit.  She enjoyed attending sports games and many school events.

Through hard times in life mom was the rock and when we apologize for our bad behavior or wrong choices mom would forgive and say, “That’s Life”.  To her very last days she was still worried about her family and wanted us to know that we are to take care of each other.

We love you mom and cherish all you taught us forever.
