Obituary of Eileen Meiklejohn

Meiklejohn – Eileen

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Eileen Gloria (nee: Willick) Meiklejohn on June 6, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her children, Robert, Margot, and Delaine at the Big River Health Centre in Big River, Sask at the age of 91.

In 1950, Eileen attended Normal School to receive her certification in teaching at Saskatoon. One of her first purchases was a black Chevrolet, which was needed as she felt she was isolated and if something were to happen, she would have a vehicle to keep her safe.

One evening, there was a knock on her door at the teacherage and when she opened the door, a handsome young man was there inquiring if she would go out with him.

At first, she said no because she didn’t know him, but she did begin to date our dad and on November 15, 1955, she married her best friend and became a farmer’s wife and continued to serve her community as a teacher.

In the years to come, they switched gears and built a life in various town settings as hotel owners and real estate agents.

During retirement, they enjoyed lake time, fishing, and spending time with their 8 grandchildren. Mom and Dad were avid gardeners, both enjoyed photography and liked to photograph and record old houses and elevators in the surrounding communities. Often to squabble about who took which picture.

They liked to go for drives, attend garage sales, and meet new people. It gives us great comfort knowing that mom is again with dad, Lindsay (Granddaughter), and baby Lisa Gayle (Daughter).

Mom is lovingly survived by her children: Robert & Paulette Meiklejohn of Shellbrook, SK, Margot Meiklejohn of Marshall, SK, Delaine & Quint Althouse of Carrot River, SK; her seven grandchildren: Herb (Shari Crawford) Meiklejohn of Parkside, SK, Donny & Richelle Meiklejohn of Prince Albert, SK, Brad & Amber Meiklejohn of Leduc County, AB, Leslie Meiklejohn of Shellbrook, SK, Hal & Michelle Wakefield of Grand Prairie, AB, Raymond & Ahnastasia Althouse of Biggar, SK, Larissa (Paul Rene Legendre) Althouse of Nipawin, SK; as well as 20 great grandchildren, Cody, Rayjeanne, Corbin & Mya Meiklejohn; Sage Meiklejohn; Keira & Aiden Wakefield; Madison & Triston Wakefield; Matthew & Ethan Swanson; Charmayne Campbell; Charlyn Legendre; Brooke & Dayton Meiklejohn; Olive, Gracie & Alex Meiklejohn; JC Thomas & Clyde Copeland Althouse; her siblings, Brian Willick of Waldheim, SK, Rolly Willick of Oyen, AB, Rita (Willick) Rodrigue of Leduc, AB, Yvonne (Willick) Verrault of Hanna, AB, and Margarette (Willick) Lee of Wetaskwin, AB.
