Obituary of Rodney Kenneth Moore

Moore - In loving memory of Rodney Kenneth Moore Born February 25, 1950 at Rabbit Lake, SK and passed away February 16, 2010 at Spiritwood, SK. Rod is survived by his loving wife Gwen and two sons: Derek (Lynn) and their children Wyatt & Kendra of Rabbit Lake, SK and Curtis (Nicole) and their children Samantha & Martina of Nipawin, SK, his brothers Stanley (Rose), Rabbit Lake, SK; Wayne, Rabbit Lake, SK; James Jim" (Jan), Mississauga, ON; Bradley (Cheryl), Rabbit Lake, SK; Sister-in-law Margaret Moore, Kitimat, BC; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Rod was predeceased by his parents Hartley and Florence Moore, his brothers Cecil and Garry, his sisters Diane and Gloria. Rod was born, raised and educated at Rabbit Lake, SK. He went on to spend 3 years on the navy ship HMCS St. Croix based out of Esquimalt, BC and then 4 years with CP rail in Winnipeg, MB. Rod & Gwen were married December 11, 1971 in Winnipeg, MB. In 1975 Rod moved his family back to the farm at Rabbit Lake which is what he continued to do up to his sudden passing. He juggled the farming with driving school bus for over 30 years and every day had its memorable moments. Rod was very active in his surrounding community, always helping with any functions or sports. He has spent many years with the Carlton Trail Jamboree and Ski-Do Rally Organizations, and from a young age has been very active & competitive in sports - curling, volleyball, baseball, hockey, bunnock, to even family card games, more often than not coming home with a trophy or prize or $2 in quarters. He coached his sons & nephews & countless others in hockey & baseball and likely a few other things as well. Most recently, he played goalie (in his boots) for a family shinny game at Christmas time, and left us cheering for Canada in the Olympics. The Funeral Service was held Saturday, February 20,2010 from the Community Hall in Rabbit Lake, SK with Rev. Cornie Martens and Rev. Jeanette Liberty-Dunn officiating. Organist was Marlene Martens. Special music "Beyond the Sunset" by Cornie & Marlene Martens; Hymns were "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Honorary Guard were "The Kids on the Bus". Honorary Pallbearers were "All relatives and friends who have shared in Rod's life". Memorial donations may be made to Rose Gill Lodge, Rabbit Lake, SK Interment to follow at a later date.
