Aline Meyer

Obituary of Aline Emelda Meyer

MEYER, (NEE DUSSAULT), Aline (Tiger)

TIGER was the nickname for Aline Meyer whose adoring husband, Harald coined. Sadly, even tigers can succumb to cancer. Aline passed away August 29, 2023. She will be remembered for her hard work, strength, determination, grace and beauty.  She was an avid gardener, home cook and matriarch to her family, siblings and neighbours who are like family.

Aline was born third child of Charles and Mathilda Dussault on October 8, 1943 in Albertville. She was one of eleven children.  She attended a boarding school in St. Louis for three years, matriculated in Albertville and went on to Teachers College in Saskatoon. While she did not follow that career, she took a job as a phone operator and not long after met Harald Meyer.  They were married on a very cold day, November 28, 1964.  They had two children, Rosalie and Diana while living in Prince Albert and then they built a ranch home in Peter Pond, just west of Prince Albert.  They would have two more children there, Maureen and Kurt.

With four children, Aline became very involved with the community: executive of Home and School, Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, Ladies’ Firemen Department and local newsletter, “Buckland Partyline.”  Aline started as a volunteer in seeking advertisements and reporting, then later became the paper’s Editor.  The newsletter had a very long run of 18 years.  In 1988, Aline was named Citizen of the Year for Buckland!

Aline and Harald were avid campers, fishermen, travellers and for a time, bee keepers.  Their children grew up, married and Aline boasted nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

While Harald was semi-retired, Aline and he would take snowbird trips to Nevada, Arizona and California.  They often traveled by RV and had many early starts but Aline was always prepared with home cooked meals and beverages. They befriended other snowbirds from the USA and Canada.

In 2015, Harald suffered a severe stroke which left him with Aphasia and he required a walker and wheelchair to get around. This was devastating for the family but particularly for Aline who dedicated the rest of her life to caring for Harald.

Special thanks to family, friends, neighbours and the Palliative Care Team for your rapid support during this fraught time.

Aline was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mathilda Dussault and her sister Emilie Fabian. She is survived by adoring husband, Harald Meyer, Aunt Angeline Gignac, Aunt Elise Brule and Uncle Raymond Gignac.  Her surviving siblings are Donald Dussault (Louise), Marie Jacobson (Bob From), Henriette Olson, Madeleine Payeur (Albert), Leonard Dussault, Rosanne Scott (Grant), Clement Dussault (Karen), Yvette Innes and Norman Dussault (Theresa). Children: Rosalie Meyer-Kuzniar (Ken Kuzniar), Diana Meyer (Stacey McLachlin), Maureen Meyer-Mannix (Ken Mannix) and Kurt Meyer.  Grandchildren: Kalyn Lavallee (Jade Morgan), Courtney Robb (Cody), Devin Meyer, Oschean Ulmer (Kyle), Jade Offret (Brandon), Katlin Meyer, Kira McLachlin, Hannah Kuzniar, Emily Kuzniar.  Great Grandchildren:  Dominic, Camille, Samuel, Caleb, Isla and Eva.

We will always remember Aline as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, friend and dedicated spouse; for her amazing home cooked meals, hospitality, impeccable memory, dignity and happy hour.  Prost!
