Blaine grew up working on the family farm until the age of 19 when he moved to Rosthern to start a nineteen-year career for the Sask Wheat Pool.  It was there that he met the love of his life, Sandra, and getting married shortly after on October 6, 1979.  They had their son, Shaun, in June 1980, followed by their daughter, Katherine, in July 1981.  Together, as a family, they lived in several small towns within Saskatchewan until finally settling in the Meath Park/Weirdale area.  When the Wheat Pool started closing down, they purchased the Weirdale Hotel and ran it for 21 years.  Blaine had also worked at Rona, 3-D Distributors and Peavey Mart in Prince Albert.  In his younger years he enjoyed curling and watching it when he was unable to curl himself anymore, wood working, and he was also an avid Roughriders fan, always making sure to watch them on tv.
