Obituary of Mae Smith
Mae Sarah Smith
Born April 20, 1939, in Glen Mary, SK to Max and Celia Lucier. She lived in many places as Grandpa travelled to where there was work. Mom met dad and they were married on September 22, 1956, and together raised 7 children. Mom worked hard all her life caring for her children and anyone else’s who needed her help. They opened their home to many children including family, foster kids, high school borders and neighborhood kids. Once her kids were older, she returned to school to obtain her grade 12. Then she started her career in the 80’s working at NCC Family Services, her role was again helping others. She remained there until her retirement in 2004. Through this time, she met some very special, lifelong friends. Moms family and friends were very important to her, she enjoyed holidays serving huge meals. Her grandbabies were the light of her life. St. Laurent Shrine was very special to mom and dad as they spent many years volunteering in the kitchen and on the grounds, or wherever they were needed. It was where they spent lots of time with family and friends. After retirement and more time at home she had comfort with her loving dogs Buddy and Chicklet. Mae will be lovingly remembered by her children, Wendy Smith, Kelly (Chris) Smith, Wanda (Ron) Anderson, Sandy (Mattie Ballantyne) Smith, Don Smith; brother, Floyd (Pearl) Bear; daughter in-law, Debbie Linger Smith; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great- grandchildren; adopted son, Rick Petitpas. Mae is predeceased by her husband, Joe; twins at birth; son, Melvin; daughter, Laurie; parents, Max and Celia Lucier; in-laws, Leon and Margurite Smith; and 3 grandbabies at birth.
